lol...my guess is somewhere in south america?

cuz the wheel is on the left side like US...

but i noticed that there is a wall-mounted a/c system so there's no way it's in north america...haha

damn! lol...i was gonna guess somewhere in Asia (Indonesia) but i thought all Asian countries have their wheel on the right side!! And I know what you mean by the weather...India is the same way... ;)

Aren't Pokerface and Renn208 Filipino? I know rammbs is Filipino... :) ;)

btw...BNZSport member "slk320" is going to love you because you own a Chrysler 300C...he has one too (in the same color) and a w203 c320 as his daily driver...haha

only japan and hongkong have right had drive from what I know. The philippines was an american colony for centuries which explains why we drive the same way...

hey that's a nice yellow slk krk...

am actually thinking of getting one...been looking at a 97 slk 230 with amg kit and 17's...

red interior...

is there anything I should watch out for before I buy the car bro? like any major danger signals?

I'm gonna do a test drive on monday...

oh btw merry xmas everybody!

SLK230s are pretty rock solid...my car has 41K miles on it and has no engine problems...

pretty much all prefacelift SLKs have a problem with their "micro-switches" (sensors that control the roof)...there are 12 switches throughout the car...if one of the switches malfunction then the sequence to open (or close) the roof wont complete...for example the trunk/boot will open but then the roof wont open...and this only occurs when there is a sudden change in temperature...

worry not...it's not expensive to fix...there are three defective switches (S1 S2 and S3) which need to replaced and that resolves the problem...

btw... benzworld.org has a good/informative SLK forum so check that out...
...

ok...i just looked it up...all of south asia drives on the left side...and many south east asian countries as well (thailand, malaysia, singapore, indonesia...etc)... :P :)

thanks for the info bro...

hey..what's the difference between the facelift and pre facelift slks?

also I notice that the kit on the one I wanna buy is different from the new amg kit... which looks more aggressive...

is this newer kit bolt on? I also wanna get that sl grill..sweet man... what else have you done with your slk ?

nothing major mechanical. mainly the difference is the one with newer bodykits comes with the Touch-shift feature. The R170 never saw the use of the M271 1.8liter engine.

post facelift SLKs...have color coded door handles, mirrors with indicators, and 5-speed tiptronic automatic...optional xenon head-lights...teleaid

some post facelift SLKs (through 2001) came with the SP1 AMG pack...2002+ SLKs have the SP2 AMG pack which has the same front bumper as the SLK32 AMG...

the only thing i don't like about the post facelift models is the interior trim...it's pretty nasty, industrial material looking trim...

my prefacelift SLK SP1 Sport has carbon-fiber trim and a very unique shift knob with CF trim as well...hehe

...

as for my mods...

I have 18" x 8" + 18" x 9" ASA ST4 Wheels (silver), 225/40/18 + 265/35/18 Pirelli P Zero Nero tires, H&R Sport springs, Bilstein Sport shocks, Remus exhaust w/o resonator, OEM European license plate bumper mount...(btw: the pic in my sig is the pre-modded version of my car...;p)

I too want that SL grille! Totally changes the look of the car...

Umm.... Teleaid, SP1 & SP2 aren't international standards!! An SLK with an AMG kit in Australia is called an SLK with an AMG kit! Oh, and Teleaid is NOT available in Aus. I'm willing to bet it's the same thing in the 'Pines!

Damn yankie! :P

:D

Oh yeah, welcome new member!

Welcome pare!

I was just in PI less than a week ago and one good thing about that weather and sun, is it is legal for your windshield to be tinted. I'm jealous.

gpreyes
12-25-2005, 03:13 AM
haha it's legal to tint your entire car if you want...

you can do anything in the Philippines except break speed limits...

cause there are no speed limits haha

thanks all for the warm welcome

so I decided to get the 97 slk 230k...will be delivered on Jan 20...

right now they're fixing the roof...

you called it krk...it opens the trunk but doesn't stow.

mentioned to the owner about the switches...

he said what needs to be replaced is some pump (part number 170800048)

does this sound right to you?

in any case I told him I wouldn't pay til the roof is fixed...

anytthing else I should watch out for?

oh and btw I'm gonna keep my c280 =)

like the idea of having two benzes in the garage for myself...even if they are both a bit old =)

OMG!! I am SO happy...congrats on the purchase, my friend! Now I have another BNZSport-mate who drives a SLK...

that makes 3: me, you and OzzieBob's friend "Drooze"...hehe

what else should you look for?

you got the roof out of the way so that's good...so is the current owner getting the pump fixed? from what i know it's a problem with the S1, S2, S3 switches...i suppose it could be an issue with the pump as well...but i know the switches go bad on the prefacelift models...

also, get the MAS checked...it's also a common problem, but a super easy fix...a malfunctioning MAS will throw on the check engine light though

the part costs about $300USD in the States but it's really easy to install so labor is practically nothing...

also watch out for the pealing center console (where the storage bin is)...it tends to peal...another easy, but costly fix...a new center console costs about $400USD in the States...

i dunno what else...just enjoy the car...it's really fun to drive...

tell us what kind of mods you're going to do! and post pics ASAP...

I sure will...

let's both get the SL grill? myroadster.net?

what are the symptoms of a faulty MAS?

the console is cracked but owner is replacing =)

I'm excited!

hmmmm...it really varies...from what i've read on the SLK forums is that the car shifts erratically and there is a power loss when the MAS is bad...

btw check out

www.slk32.com (has SLK info as well has how to change your own oil, brakes, etc)

hi krk!

I'm getting the car tomorrow finally! roof is fixed..and pretty much everything is ok...

took it for a spin and drives like a dream...

however the plastic panels on the dash (not sure what you call them, but the ones on either side of the steering wheel on the side of the gauges - where the indicators are located for check engine, brakes, etc)

Well they're cracked...like someone pushed his finger into them...

do you know how I can replace this part?

Thanks for your help bro

thanks bud,

but I think I'm gonna keep her stock...

here's my other car

http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a139/GPReyes_benz/CIMG0823.jpg

dropped with bilstein sport and eibachs on 1 pads...

and still the ride is smoother vs. my roadster...

so I guess in this case comfort prevails over looks... unless you know of a suspension setup that will improve on the current stock one..

i have a friend who told me bilstein sports on an slk improves the ride.... wonder if it's true
