Thinking of buying a truck

Thinking of getting a truck.... to clear it up right now the SL is my Dad's:p

I've been looking around and I had an offer of $3000 CDN for a 1988 F150. Looked mint with 250,000 kms. Good deal? He wants to sell in 6 months or so.

Right now I'm driving a 1996 Nissan Quest (not bad) and I recently had a 1997 Honda CRV (rather gutless IMHO, 6000 rpm and still could barely pass a Chevy Malibu ). What should I be looking for? Yes I will actually be using the truck bed a lot for moving trees, hauling furniture and other crap. And yes I would love to go mudding once in a while...

I would probably have about $4500 saved up in a year from now. What kind of truck should I look into. Hopefully a 2 door with a medium bed 4x4 isn't a necessity but it wouldn't hurt.

The other thing is next year I'm leaving for university. What kind of truck could I lease/finance under $40,000 CDN? Esp. with the downpayment of about $5,000?

What do I do? I don't like my van a lot.... the other thing is that my parents still have to pay for insurance/some gas. How can I convince them to allow a 4th car? I'm paying and I believe insurance premiums will be a lot lower on the type of truck I'm hoping to get.

Get a Ford Lightning. I saw a NEW one at the dealership two days ago for $27k!!! That is $5k less than MSRP. I dont know why only that one, since the other new ones were at the regular $32k. But it was indeed new.

Ok, you're talking about buying a 2000 some dollar USD truck, and then a 40k one. My guess is that what YOU can afford is a lesser truck, but what your PARENTS can, is a 40k truck.

A 40k truck will be a 20k truck two years later. Bad investment. And for that kind of money, I'd put 15k in a '99 C280 Sport or something you know?

Lightning is very nice... seen em brand new about 41k CDN.

I can either buy a nice truck now or put a down payment on a brand new truck next year. The lightning is 41k but a nice 4 door F150 w/ 4*4, leather and full sport package goes for 40k.

I could look into a Benz but I want a V8. If a 400E showed up I ditch the whole truck mess and buy one :P

Basically this is a "What car do I buy for university next year?" thread. I have loved trucks for a while and would love to get one or a 400E realistically these are the two top choices right now. Or I finance a used Lightning next year. I'm footing the downpayment so my parents are less reluctant and so I pay for what I drive...

EDIT: If I have 3k in 6 months I will seriously consider the F150 if I have to pay entirely for a car. If I can get a nice car for my graduation then I will.

I'd prefer a new car but a lower mileage used car is ok too.

fast as F. my friend's dad has one. its a blast to be in when the back end kicks out a bit and the supercharger starts scaring people nearby because its so loud.

I'm looking at buying truck also when I'm done modding my ride. My uncle owns his own dealership in LA.

I want to buy a Powerstroke 7.3L diesel 5 or 6spd manual trans. They go really cheap at auctions last summer when I went I was suprised. Whenever I do buy my truck I'm driving it from California to GA.

When did the lighting come with 4x4 and 4 doors :o ? Haven't seen one of those ever.

No the regular F150 four door was less than a Lightning and it came fully loaded with four door cab and all.

I'll see what happens :P

EDIT: SLK230s, Audi S4s and BMW 740Is are all in my price range and are all newer than 1997. :D

again.....you need to decide ur needs!!....but i suggest staying away from a 7 series especially since u will be taking the car to university.....and people get jealous....belive me....i knoe becuse i used to drive the S to school....

i say the decision is rite now benz or a truck.....

Another cool truck is the 2002 or newer F150 Harley Davidson editions. They have same engine as Lightning, only they have a bigger cab (seats four) and cool chrome wheels.

For some reason though, they make like 10 or 20 less hp that the Lightning, though both have the smae 5.4L supercharged V8.
