some of those people need to get a clue...they keep on saying MBZ isn't as sporty or fast a Bimmers...isn't a lot of MBZs line-up a lot faster than BMW? For example S600 vs. 760Li...The S600 owns it acceleration and is better in handling...;) And speaking of quality...funny no one mentions the issues with the i-Drive...even Car and Driver had problems with their 760Li test car...it would stall when put into reverse...etc...

i don't really care what they say...MBZ has been the industry leader and innovator from the Start...and everyone else is a follower...;)

Every sport Version (///AMG) from my knowledge is faster than a M version of a BMW, and its an AUTOMATIC, and if its not faster, than it still stays on your ass, not being able to get rid of it...

Although the only thing that i wish mercedes had, is better handling...Thats all, and more stick shifts

If we are talking 0-60 and 1/4 mi times, and the differences are only a few tenths of a second.....

I love my MB and MOST of the new MB models, but I give a thumbs up to BMW in terms of overall performance.

Not talking about electronics and other bells and whistles. I'm just talking actual car performance.

I respect BMW for their long-standing goals of producing performance cars first. The new ones may look like crap, but they still do very well in overall performance.

No dissing MB. They are great too. But I can't diss BMW either....as they do a GREAT job with their cars as well. I think given the choice to drive a MB or a BMW on a track or AutoX event, i'd go BMW first.

Dispite the supposed loss of power through the slightly less efficient auto box, if you mash the loud pedal on an auto you will most likely accelerate the car to the best of it's abilities. In order to do the same with a manual transmission you must actually be able to drive with one :) . I find it really funny when people try to compare the handling of different cars, especially when one of the first modifications most people make with cars is alter the suspension setup, you really can't compare them after that.

Well, None of the cars have manual transmissions in the USA, everywhere else in the world enjoys a choice of manual or automatic on probably half the models currently in production.

Yea, I think alot of the members on that thread just dont want to face the fact that MB is producing sporty and faster cars then BMW, and the fact that BMW styling is becoming a joke.
Sportiness, my E46 just feels nicer because its a stick shift, and maybe a bit of styling..but my W210 is ALOT higher quality when comes to buid quality and it feels SOLID. It may not be as sporty, but thats when bodykits and other mods come in;)

I was always wondering, is AMG speedshift the same as the regular tiptronic as equipped in 2000+ W210's? Vader? Anybody know?

I have respect for Benz & Bimmer but I have to say that the latest Benzs, with the exception of the Sl, CL or S cllases, quality have been slipping. All the QC related warrenty calls people posts about r getting stupid. Seems like the old attention to detail I expect from a Benz is gone and interior buttons, layout, and feel is more Chrysleresque to me. Too plasticky & have an overall cheap feel compared to the late 80's & mid 90's cars. At the sametime, Bimmer & Audi quality have been going up. Fit, finish, layout, design and feel seem like have surpassed MB's bread & butter line up. Saw a new A4 advant at the shop I go to the other day. All aluminum lower control arms and upper wish bones!!!! Quality!

Like Kam said, Bimmers r more competitive on the track or auto-x. Sat in a 2000 M z-coupe at SCCA at we went through the course. it's just handles awesome. No way I can get my benz to handle like that w/o spending big bucks and even if I did, not to sure it'll quite get there. I now truly understand that performance is more than just straight speed.

Just my 2 cents.

i cant diss BMW cuz they make some sick ass cars. but most BMW owners are hella gay. our 190E group met up with some E30 M3s at their GTG which they said was ok to attend, but as soon as we rolled up with 2.3-16s, they were talking shit the whole time saying that mercedes never won a race, or its a poor bmw imitation. all i gotta say is, IF IT WEREN'T FOR THE 2.3-16v, THE E30 M3 WOULDN'T EXIST OR WORSE; IT WOULD BE ONE SORRY @$$ CAR.
