OK, I have a personalized plate, I no longer what to keep it, I just want to go back to sequential, or even another personalized plate. Do I just register for a new personalized plate/sequencial? Or is there like a process that I can go through to cancel the existing plate and to get a new plate? Anyone know about this?

Thanks
Danny

I can only tell you about the local personalised plates... I kinda forgot to pay my fee for the plates, and it just simply expired after a year. They even allocated me a new 'normal' plate automatically.
I had to re-apply for my personalised plates again, took about a week.

You go back to the DMV, and you gotta give them back your personalized plates, and then they will issue you new ones.

i thought to get a new sequential plate you had to pay a small fee. switching to another personalized should be free b/c you already paid for it.

just order another personalized (like you did the first time) and ask the dmv office to switch

Would I fill out a form or just bring my plates in and tell the person at the desk? Thanks Shanta.

Danny

There are some forms to fill out. One for new plates and one for removing the old personalized plates (you can choose to hold/reserved them paying a fee each year, you can cancel them or reassign them).

You do need to bring in your old plates, but if you are nice and promise to bring them back (like me) you can get new plates w/o first turning in the old ones. That reminds me, I need to turn in my old plates.

Oh I did all this w/o and appointment. I just went down to DMV to the information window and got the forms and stood in line. :D

Just in case you want to be prepared before you go

Use this form to cancel or do whatever with your personalized plates: http://www.dmv.ca.gov/forms/reg/reg17.pdf

If memory serves me correctly you use this one for the new plates: http://www.dmv.ca.gov/forms/reg/reg156.pdf

One last question...Does "conversion" as stated in the form REG 17, mean getting another personalized plate? I might as well get another personlized..
I just need to get rid of my current because it refers to brabus in it and nowadays the car have nothing on it whatsoever that is brabus lol...

Well thanks again, all the help from everyone is very much appreciated.
