View Full Version : A difficult decision I had to make

Well, I returned to the US after a few months, started the benz – nothing but problems since then :( It was in the shop 3 times in the last 2 weeks, almost felt like Rocky’s C36 story happening to me, anything can go wrong – did. Carmax gave me a good deal on it (even though I did not buy anything from them), yes, I sold it :(
I’ve accepted a different position with the company and will be moving, to the city, wanted something with front wheel drive for the winter and a little more power. After driving my parents Volvo 850 Turbo – I made up my mind, and here is my midlife crisis car:
1998 Volvo S70 T5 with 240HP – with every possible option available for the model:

Not a looker as C class imo, but those extra ponnies makes up for the difference (for now at least) and the price was so right - just could not turn it down. Someone already installed 17” Mile Miglia wheels with correct offset and the tires were brand new – no need to upgrade. Factory premium sound system is very good quality, just missing some low tones – overall, I’m pretty happy, and though I will miss C class, in a few years, I will buy another one, just brand new this time.

congratulations on your new car...i think everybody knows what pain in the ass it is when u have to shell out un-necessary money on the C....im glad you got rid of it so that you do not have any more problems.....I love the car but sometimes i feel an urge to sell it just cause of the problems....well hopefully you will not have any with this one...and if that car is a turbo...u can always chip it for even more hp!:)
Good luck with that one

I've always loved the previous generation Volvos 850s and S70s! Good looking car and is quite fast!...I've never seen a modded Volvo (17, 18" wheels, wide tires, lowered suspension, etc...) ...I think you know what your duty is being apart of this forum...:D ;)
btw: man...a lot a members are buying new cars and they are not Benzes! Rob with the Holden...Scottschoe with the Lexus...and now babycarlsson with the Volvo...

YOu can't go wrong with 240hp. But don't leave us here and start hanging out with the Volvo crowd. They ain't nothing but a bunch of rowdy trouble-makers, those Volvo drivers! ;)

hey man one already exists!
i'll let ya join hahahahha.
My sister has an 850 GLT sports package. The S70 is the next generation up. When Volvo decided to move to front wheel drive they wanted to make sure that the cars would perform as close to a rear wheel drive car as possible. These cars are fun to drive! Good Choice!

Thanks for the kind words and not bashing me for giving up my MB!
Living this crowd? Not a chance!!! Bnzsport community differ a great deal from most other forums, there is no kindergarten disputes or dirt pouring, there is a great deal of friendship and willingness to help each other, and that makes a tremendous difference!!! Benz or not - you guys are awesome!
As for the Volvo - I'm getting used to driving it (which is not very difficult). Tranny is smooth and very responsive (even with the economy mode on), while there is a little turbo lag from dead stop, once the car is moving - it truly is a blast! The car is very predictable, has good brakes, the traction control can be turned off - burn tires, burn :D What can I say - I'm pretty happy so far, as long as it is as reliable as our 850 Turbo (178,XXX miles with not a single problem, other then the fuel pump).
Performance upgrades - I've read a lot on IPD's supplier TME Sweden (as you suggested) - looks very promising and very affordable imo. First things first though - need to find a place in the city, settle down then the mods ;)

my brother and i got s70's the first year they came out. imo, they werent that great. they were fun to drive but were def overpriced for what it was and we had countless problems with the electrical systems. we got rid of them after 7 months. who knows, maybe things have changed and improvements were made. afterall, we got them in the first production year. good luck with your new car!
