is there a good shop in los angeles, that would be able to take off the resonator, and if so will the car's ecu throw out any codes?

I wouldn't take it off. I think i've mentioned this a gazillion times.

First...Mercedes exhuasts are really not bad and the gains are minimal if none if you try to tweak the exhuast.

Second...if you were to buy a new resonator, you'll need to buy a large chunk of the exhuast, the W202 one costs like $3500 CDN just for the part.

well actually the resonator and the muffler isn't that much. Rocky i think for the 3500CAN it includes the cat which that i know ALONE is $1,100 USD (and that's with a 10% discount).

in terms of gain without the reso. you might be right but you def have a 'freeier' pipe without the reso.

i did a cat back with a custom mandrel bended 3in with no resno. straight into the REMUS and it sounds clean. no code was set off to the ECU but i DID kept the OEM reson and the muffler in my garage just in case if i need to put it back on

but i would have but a 2.5in instead of a 3in if i were to do it again caz the 3in is a bit too bit for the C280 engine.......too much low-end loss with the 3in

shops to do it in LA??....hummm i dunno maybe those accross or near TWS ....just a guess

Any good muffler shop should be able to take off the resonator - though the gains are probably minimal, the sound level increases a bit too.

I go to Tony's Mufflers on Garvey and Walnut Grove, right next to JT Autobody (Ricer capital of Rosemead!)

I took mine off of the AMG Turbo. Sound didn't change much, but it freed up the system by a very noticable amount!

I removed my 500E mid-muffler/center resonator, years ago, and replaced it with a TimeValve Engineering "Y" pipe;
VERY nice improvement on the throaty 2500-3000 RPM note - WOMMMMMMMMMMMP!!! 60+ lbs. lighter, too...

Removed mine as well, a bit more of a throaty roar, no resonance at cruize and of course, it saves about 35lbs, at least on the W201 it does.

I too have removed my resonator from my C43. No check engine light and it did free up the motor.

I ran dual 2.5" diameter pipes from the resonator location to the rear bumper.

In place of the resonator I put a Magnaflow dual in and dual out muffler. This muffler has a large volume and is formed on the inside like a big X-pipe. From the exit back to the rear bumper I just have the two 2.5" diameter pipes that terminate as I said at the bumper.

Sound is louder, but not obnoxious, just deeper and more forcefull. You know you are driving a V-8 now.

Same here but all the muffler guy did was replace it with a 2.5" pipe. Not the cleanest job so I want redo it.

A little louder sound. Not sure if I feel any gain but no loss for sure.

Have you dyno-ed your car yet with all the mods ?

Did you get Underdrive pully(s) also ?

Once I get the fuel setting changed to 93RON and the phenolic heat spacers in and the UD pulleys on, then I will dyno.

Hopefully in the next month. Be patient.

Thanks,

Jeff

speedybenz - any pics of the install? Also, do you have a part number of the magnaflow muffler you used?

Also, if tried something like this on a w124 (inline 6, 3.0L), does any have any idea of how it'd sound? Thanks

I took off one of mine (center) when I put on my remus exhaust. very noticeable difference, both in sound and in snot! I'm thinking about straight-piping the other one too, because the exhaust is still quite tame.

I had my resonator removed also.. and got a custom cat back exhaust done last year... all stainless steel exhaust pipe to a Magnaflow muffler with dual round tips.
looks really nice and sounds much louder, very throaty. havent noticed any performance gains.. but no losses like others have said.

Slammed_C - Any chance you have pics of your setup? Under the car would be ideal, but anything would work. Thanks

Removed mine, and also replaced the stock cats with a single 2.5 stainless high flow cat from Random Technologies. The better flow made a big difference in my case! Of course I'm running a turbo, so my gains by improving the exhaust were magnified. I don't know how much of a difference it would make with a stock engine, but it certainly will deepen the tone.
