I'll just turn this into a mini review just in case people care to get one in the next few years.
It's built tough and a little heavy at 2lbs, and a bit unbalanced on a 30d without the grip, i think I'm to use to light lense because at 70mm I can clearly see the focus points wobbling because of my hands. I guess practice will change that.

I've heard that there are good and bad copies of this lense, I guess I got a good one? There have been reports of it being soft from 2.8 and even smaller aperatures...But mine is sharp and very usable at f2.8, by 4 and smaller...it's so sharp...fuggitaboutit!

This lense is not as sharp as the L primes I suspect. But what's important is that this zoom matches the image sharpness of normal primes and throughout the entire range you don't neccessarily give up quality for convience plus you get better contrast and colors due to coatings and special this and that blah blah blah on the lense.
Anyways...here are some quickie test pics I did throughout the day, sorry no portraits because I was alone this weekend, though I'm very curious to see how headshots will turn out vs. the 50mm i had:

handheld at 2.8 iso 400 snapshot.
Overall, I think it's a good lense, doesn't magically make your photos look nicer, but it does match prime quality in a zoom so it beats lugging around 3 different lenses.
