thinking about getting something in the long range to complete my kit.
Would you rather have a 70-200 F4L IS (up to 3 stops IS) or a 85mm f1.8 + 135mm F2L? I've heard very good things about both of the primes and the zoom. Anyone have any experience with these lenses?

My ultimate kit would be: 16-35 f/2.8 L II, 24-105, 100-400, and the 85mm prime.
If you want something REALLY long, then go for the 100-400... thats 640mm focal legnth on your cropped sensor!!
The 24-105 will give you a great range... perfect for walking around with. I think I'm going to sell my 70-200 and get the 24-105 eventually.

I have the f/4 non-IS and I LOVE it. BUT... I personally find its range to be not so great. Its either too long with the cropped sensor, or not long enough. But for shooting cars with long glass, its usually perfect! I'd be suprised if it wasn't Canon's best seller. It seems everyone and their brother use the 70-200 in some form or another.
For walking around, I think the 70-200 is too long. I'd rather have the 24-105 for that. More range for closeup shots and longer ones + IS and constant F/4 aperature throughout range.
On the long end, I'd rather have something thats dedicated for long shots, like the 100-400. Its pretty much as long as you'll ever need, but it has great range + IS.
In a perfect world, I'd also like to have the 200mm f/1.8 L :D MONSTER!! http://www.fredmiranda.com/reviews/showproduct.php?product=36&sort=7&cat=2&page=1
