The post above removing the resonators got me thinking whether or not it is possible to effictively remove the cats from my car? Its a 88 300ce if that matters, the inline6, 12 valve. I've read of the UK Spec cars coming without cats and having about 20 more HP. I was wondering if i could simply rip out my cats and get that much power. Of course, passing emmisions would probably be a problem; however, would i have any problems with check engine lights, etc? Thanks
By the way, I'm rather new to engine tuning, so if this is utterly ridiculous, please just say so. thanks again

If your car was UK spec it would not need a CAT , the law requires every car after 1991 to have a CAT fitted.
Some manufacturers put cats in before (to set standards etc) and if the car was before 1991 it could be legally removd in the UK.
I have no CAT on my car but I put it back on once a year for emissions...

I don't know about the specs of your car, but I was unable to remove my cats because there is an O2 sensor after the cats, and if it sensed the the air flowing was off, check engine light would come on and the car would probably alter its fuel supply and mess with my engine. You need something to fool the computer. They sell these everywhere for Ford's, Chevy's, etc., but I was unable to find one that would return the same signal as a Mercedes.
Anyone have any ideas?
Also. unless you know someone that will do it, or unless you do it yourself, you can not simply walk into a muffler shop and have this done. Its against the law and here in Ohio, the shop could be fined $10k.

You will need a dummy sensor. Actually, any dummy from a 5.0 mustang would work. Basically, you need one that works with the bosch sensor in your benz, and not surprisingly, bosch only makes two types of sensors that most manufacturers use. I know the one from a 5.0 is a proper fit, so just go with that.

There is a "simulator" you can purchase that send a 1v ~.3v unit to the ECU. USe Google to search for a O2 Sensor Simulator.
I had a friend that build his own, which ended up being like $40~
