Why does this stuff take so much longer to dry than normal dark tint?

Just found out today that our S320 (which we've had for a long time) has a metallic tint that I always thought was normal. weird

IS300 now has a 35% metallic tint in front/rear; I can post pix if anyone wants to see. It's a 5-0 magnet now in the evening because I took off the dealer plates (which is legal) and the tint is impossible to see into.

I'm not driving anywhere for a few days until I can roll down the fronts.

Oh, if anyone's looking for a pretty good shop in the Bay Area (that does a lot of is300.net and I-club members):

My (metallic) tint didn't take long to dry, maybe a couple of days, 3 days max.

I got the darkest tint I possible (5% or something like that) and I got it on all 4 windows and the front windshield strip.

ok. i just checked up on my car, it looks to be almost done. the shop just said if there are any problems, wait a few weeks, and then come and show it to us b/c it takes a long time to fully dry.

5% all around....hm.....must look nice.

To answer you question, better quality window film (also known to be called "paper") takes longer to dry due to the thickness of material. The thicker the better! :D

I hate selling tint in the winter time, because it takes longer to dry, and explaining this to the consumer is very difficult. I have had people scream and cus me out a couple of days after installation since there were lots of bubbles and the tint looked cloudy.

Tint Rocks! Cuz I sell it! :D

You guys should move to Tampa, you can practically paint your windows black. Limo tint is legal.

Yes, Shanta's tint-job was very well executed... VERY nice results!

from: http://www.dmv.ca.gov/pubs/hdbk/pgs33thru4...tm#clearwindows (http://www.dmv.ca.gov/pubs/hdbk/pgs33thru41.htm#clearwindows)

*****************
Having Clear Windows And Mirrors

Keep your windshield and side windows clean inside and out. Bright sun or headlights on a dirty window make it hard to see out.
You should clear ice, frost, or dew from all windows and outside mirrors before you drive.

It is illegal to block your view of the road by putting signs or other objects on the front windshield. Don’t hang things on the mirror.
Don’t block your view through the back or side windows with objects or signs.

Tinted safety glass is allowed in permitted locations. Motorists with sun-sensitive skin can use removable sun screens on their
vehicle’s side windows during daylight travel if they have a letter from their physician.

Windshield stickers, etc., are permitted only in four places:

A seven inch square in the lower corner of the windshield farthest from the driver.
A five inch square in the lower corner of the windshield nearest the driver.

A seven inch square in the lower corner of the rear window farthest removed from the driver. Side windows to the rear of the driver.
Make sure you can see and be seen. If you drive in rain or snow, you may have to stop sometimes to wipe
mud or snow off your windshield, headlights, and taillights.

*****************

I was told by a CHP officer who pulled me over over 18 months ago (and scratched my inside driver window tint with a key)
that tint AND front license-plate "fix-it tickets" are incrementally higer in asssessment amount with each iterative of offense.
Specifically, the first ticket is $X, the second is $1.5X- 2x, et cetera.

I neither can cofirm nor deny this, as I am not a lawyer (thankfully).

Mirror-tint is 100% ILLEGAL in California, for certain.

My advice: be careful out there!

Rear window's only. I usually tint the front two to match but a shade lighter. Texas law requires 35% on front windows (driver/passenger) and as dark as you desire on rear windows.

my tint took forever to dry, the backs and sides were okay, computer cut them out but the front windshield took forever about a week and a half for all the bubbles to go away.

btw about a month after the front winshield dry out completely, i had to replace the front windshield, so i never really had enough time to get a ticket or anything, and yes at night you can see out of it just fine, actually i thought in cetain situation you could see better at night becuae it cut down the glare of headlights.

I suggest not putting it back on the front window. The lawsuits could be ongoing should an accident happen.

I always have customers asking for tint on the front windshield... I laugh and tell them they watch too many movies!

I was planning on getting my windows tinted darker than I'm getting them tinted right now. Once I get my ride re-painted.

5% Rear 13% front and 20% on the front windshield. My buddy that owns a shop said I'm stupid from wanting to do this but he wil do it but if I get pulled over it's not from him.

Tip: Never let a bunch rednecks from GA paint a car. Cause their plain ol stupid :o
