Hey guys! I'm still exploring my options and doing research on upgrading my sound system.
I'm looking into a 4-channel (for Boston Acoustics ProSeries components and Coax), 2-channel (possible for a sub or 2 additional speakers), and mono-amp (for 10" subwoofer).
I would like to know what kind of amplifiers you all are using to power your sound system. Let me know how you like the sound/quality. Your imput will be much appreciated.
TIA :)

My entire system is running off of an a/d/s/ P850. Sound quality is excellent. A bit pricey, but worth the money if clarity is your objective.

I'm running a PPI PCX480 as a 4 way and it sounds awesome (mb quart component speakers) and a PPI A600.2 for my subs (2 12" jl audio subs). I would suggest you get a PPI amp with the correct output for your speakers.

I'm not a big fan of 5/6/7ch amps but the SoundStream DaVinci would definetly be the way to go. The price is steep tho it retails for over 2k and sells on internet for about 1-1.4k~.

i have a phoenix gold titanium 4 channel amp running my components and one of their cheaper 2 channel amps running two 10s. i've had good expeiriences with pg and ppi, they're pretty good amps and don't cost a ridiculous amount of money.

Scott, thanks for the links, but I am only interested in 7 channel amps. Only one of the links had a 7 channel amp, but it really was a 6 channel, after further review.

1 2-way Sony amp for the front (only 2x60W)
1 4way Clarion amp for the rear (4x 80W)
2 1 way Clarion amps for the subs (1x 160W each I think)
sound is good enough...greetingz,

Hehe I have not checked this board for a while.
So you are looking for 7 channel amp.
First of all, why are you looking for 7 channel?
do you want to run center speaker as well?
let me list some for you:
1. Phoenix Gold Ti 900.7
7 Channel Amplifier
5x50 Watts +1x400 Watts @ 4 Ohm
5x100 Watts + 1x500 Watts @ 2 Ohm
2. ADS P850 8 Channel Amplifier
8X50 WATTS @ 4 OHM
8X75 WATTS @ 2 OHM
3. Soundstream Da Vinci 7 channel amps
4. SoundStream D'artagnan 5.1
5 channel with 1 sub channel
http://www.soundstream.com/DARTAGANtitle.html
might works for you.
I might be able to list more if you are interested.
The reason why many manufacture are no longer makes more than 4 channel amp is because you can only put 1 power supply for the whole amplifier.
Let's say you have a 7 channel amplifier, running front, rear, and subwoofers.
When the bass hit real hard, it will overload the whole amp and will distort the front and rear channel.
Why? Because it only has 1 power supply.
So usually you have 2 amplifier, 1 for the front and rear speakers, and 1 more for the subwoofers to avoid the statement above.
So depending on what you looking for, 2 amps might sounds better and cost cheaper too.

I told you already that Clarion and nakamichi are the best bang for the buck.
I was doing bench test of many amps (more than 20 brands) and those two come to the top.

For some reason which sanity eclipses, Mercedes-Benz puts a tape/radio in a very expensive car. Noone knows why when all the developed nations on the earth have been listening to music from Compact Disc for twenty years! A further insult to an intelligent Mercedes buyer is an offer by the salesperson to allow you to spend even more to buy a plastic, 6 disc changer for an absurd price. This is the reality, but buying an amplifier need not be a mystery. All are fabricated "off shore" either in South Korea, China, or Japan. The heatsink (case) is often times made in the U.S. while the pc board comes into the U.S. as "parts" avoiding the heavy import tax on assembled electronics. All the famous names we learned have been recovered from file cabinet folders along with the document showing who the brand name was purchased from and when. There are a few exceptions, but ADS, Orion, and others are all made in the same place with the same guts. If you intend for your amplifiers to last a long time in the great system you are designing, don't use one multi-channel amp to do it all, except for four channel amps used to drive four corner speakers. Use a separate, dedicated amp for the subwoofer and remember who is going to be listening to the bass-is it you? If it is, don't put a sealed sub enclosure in the trunk facing the ass end of the car. (unless you drive from the tail end of the car!) Find a box builder who knows how to build a box based on the Thiel Small Parameters unique to each subwoofer. Maybe he can design a bandpass enclosure with a partially external, square port(square ports don't whistle) that emerges from the top of the box and passes through a surgically cut hole in the rear deck, delivering the bass inside the car-a new concept!
After spending 7years as a car stereo rep I have seen it all and I will blatantly point out many of the inaccuracies of some of the posts! Make everything four ohms. P.
