Are you refering to the ones that are the size of a grain of rice?

actually, Yes...those are the bulbs i am looking for....
For the "part number challenged" I dug up the blister pack for the bulb: 12V 1.2W N: 072601012230. Not sure about your model, but these are the bulbs in a W201 used for the shifter console and the HVAC buttons.

if your talking about the window switches etc, they're leds inside of there, 3mm. I just ordered replacements in blue to redo the dash.

The almighty eBay, and yes, I'm sure they have red. hehe. Search for 3mm red led's. Mine cost $10 for fifty shipped free from hong kong with resistors to use 12v. The switches have resistors in them, so i doubt they're needed. Now all i need are all the little bulbs too and I will have a completely blue lit interior.
I might have to order some white leds when the time comes :)

Hi,
I've done this mod in my 202, its not so easy at all.....
Because, if you have already open your center console, you'll see that the mini LED (ugly orange) are incorporated into the microswitch. I'm talking about the switch for the central lock and headrest...
Those for the power windows are quite easy, just have to unsolder them and put in the new one in place...
For the central lock and headrests, you'll have to unsolder the Typon(PCB), then unsolder the microswitches. When the microswitch is unsolder, you'll have to open it (by uncliping the litlle black cover). Why ?? Because the LED's are soldered into the microswitch by the under side, and the point of solder are not bigger than a "needle head"....
To unsolder the little LED, I used a dremel to drill a little hole in center of each point of solder...not so easy, really....:(
After that, you'll be able to remove the LED, because it keeps all the mechanism of the switch together....
For the AC control, changing the color of the little bulbs will give a bad result, because of the bad diffusion of the light trough the crsital plexiglass, that's used to diffuse the light behind the commands.
For the rear window defrost, EC switch, and Renew of the inside air switches, I drill the PCB to add 3 leds that are lighting the inside of the switches...;)
For instance I'm at work, so I can't post some pīcs, but I'll try to up some tomorrow...:D
Regards,
Frenchy.

I'm interested in doing this too on my w124 (when I have the dash apart anyway to cover it with the aluminum-look sign vinyl). The pictures would be great. Also, 6cndmbz, where did you get your blue LEDs. . . exactly. Do you have an e-mail or a link to another auction that guy has, because that's exactly what I want to do too.

Hey tinman, I got em in today, nice little bulbs, but I have 50 of em, and not that many switches. I'll send you 25 If you send me $7 by paypal to s6cndmbz@hotmail.com, I'll ship em to you, complete with 25 of the resistors so they work flawlessly on a 12v system. You can e-mail me there too if interested.
Thanx

Oh, and the mod is easier in the 124, cause the switches are far more basic. I'm halfway through and all it is is popping open each of the switches, resoldering the leds and popping them back together again. Not as much circuitry involved in the 1980's tech.

Well I just bought some 3mm blue leds on ebay. I hope I can figure out how to do this, and not end up frying out my dash.
This is where the idea of having a local Benz car club/crew comes into play. We can actually help each other out on projects . Not to downplay all the great help and advise on the forum but hands on help is always better.

Pics are on the way, I just got a nice little Sony digital Camera off eBay so I'll hold off on the mod till it arrives and then document it. If I get down to So Cal for college, we're gonna have to start up a local club to do this kinda stuff. Hehe.

Scott we're going to defenitely have to hook up a local crew down here, I'm going to put off doing the LED's until you do
yours than. The step by step pics is going to help out alot.
I know how to take out the center console to get to the window switches but beyond that..hmmmmmmmmm

Tinman, they're on their way! And my digital comes sometime next week, so I'll try to get on this as soon as I get it. The next thing is still getting ahold of the bulbs for the other lights on the dash, it will take some experimenting but hopefully the entire thing will go blue, and OOHH, yeah, I just bought a complete running 300e parts car and get it delivered next week too, so I will have another whole car full of parts to screw up instead of my own. Hehehe. L8rs.

Scott,
Damn you got lucky with that parts car. I need the wood
door trims and wood trim that runs along the glove box if you want to sell them.. thanks,
~Cali
Good luck on them LED"s

Hehe, the cars gonna be pretty tight, I got about 600 buck worth of parts I needed to fix mine, sunroof windows, cc amp and it even has a spoiler that I get to pull. Plus my friend and I need a project. You guy's will see it on here when we get down to stripping it. Cali- sorry, its an 86 300e, so there's no wood on the doors nor on the glove box.
