Porterfield low dust carbon/kevlar pads are on the way so I decided to play w/ the lips on my spare Monoblock anticipating less labor on cleaning the fronts. Here is the efforts of about 2 hours including tape, using toothbrush to apply ,waiting about an hour, and polishing once w/Wenol. I used my spare that already had a bad stain on the lip for practice. To bad the pics don't do the 'shine' justice?

You can barely see through the fuzzy pic, the stripper seeped through the tape and affected this 1"portion where the hub meets the lip.(I was afraid of this & even though I double taped it still seeped through - Damn!) I will use better or more tape next time from my bodyshop guy.

Hey guys, should I go ahead and strip the hub also & see what happens! I can polish it out I think & the taping process will be almost not needed! All I would need then is the chrome star center caps to complete? Is it smooth under that brilliant silver paint? Its my spare so I dont give a rats azz! Opinions, facts, or xperience would be appreciated(Scotty190c??)...Later

I think at this stage you have a really unique look with the polished lip. If you go ahead and polish the whole thing, it may look just like the chrome ones, just a bit less blinding.
I think you should leave it. it looks real good.

What I think looks real awesome, although doesnt apply to your rims, is when multispoke wheels such as brabus or HRE, has polished lips and a polished face, however the sides of each spoke remains silver. I have yet to see this in person but I think that looks awesome. remember seeing pics of HRE's like that.

can you post step by step directions on how to achieve a polished lip? I might try this on my AMG's also. What products did you use, how long did you let them cure, etc etc.

I would love to see what they would look like completely polished, but I wouldn't do it to mine. I love the look that the silver paint and polished lip has. Then I got the chrome/silver star center hubs, it really brings out the polished lip. It's up to you. All polished would be wild.

Go to my site at http://www.scotty-c.com/ and then tech 13 for directions on the procedure.
Here's my results, before I added the updated center caps:
