I installed a 143amp alternator in my 1993 190E 2.3. I got the alternator from Potomac German Auto. (Thanks Pat)

The US-spec headlights are very dim so I've recently installed euro headlights and I plan on adding a relay to make them brighter. I want to make sure that I get more power to the headlights so they will be as bright as possible.

I also have the Factory Alpine Active Bass System which has an amplifier for the speakers. Before the conversion, when I turned up my radio too high, the lights, inside and outside, would pulse with the beat of the music as most of the power was used by the stereo.

My 190E originally had a 70amp alternator. I swapped pulleys and rotated the rear housing so the wiring would line up. It fits and works perfectly! I have not upgraded the cable to my battery yet, but it seems to be working fine for now.

I don't have any pictures yet or any power measurements but I will try to get those this week.

I learned about this mod from "GSXR" at MercedesShop.

Interesting mod, but it sounds like there was probably something wrong with your original alternator.

My car has no issues, even running the 200 watt basslink, a high power aftermarket deck and the stock door woofer amplifier.

Of course more juice can't hurt assuming the voltage regulator does not overcharge your battery

Yes, my original alternator was failing so I had to buy a new one anyways. I'm glad I went with the 143 Amp alternator but that might not be a good choice for you since you track your 190E and the bigger alternator robs horsepower.
