View Full Version : First Post from Home, and DSL Freaking Sucks!!

Darn it, darn it, darn it, darn it!
This is my first ever Net connection from home, and being used to T1/LAN all the time, I find DSL a POS.
Well, I think SBC/YAHOO sucks big time - I went to dslreports.com to check out my speed, and it was < 13 Kbps download, but more than 100 Kbps upload!
I have called them 6 times in two days, and clearly told them of the problem. They say it'll take 10 days for them to fully optimize the modem, which should be left on for that period.
Any other horror stories from you guys who have DSL?
I wish I could get cable modem, but the problem is, where I live the setup from Optel cable is beyond horrendous.
And since my company pays for the whole thing I opted for DSL since it was better where I live...

The only promblems I've had with my USB DSL modem is XP Pro. I had to tweak some setting because it would constantly shut off.

USB modems blow and I told them I wanted a Nic based modem. My DSL ISP service has fixed my all my connection promblems within minutes. In 3years I've called a total of about 10 times which isn't to bad.

my modem would freeze my internet from time to time, i got dsl too

is there any website where I can check my cable modem's speed?

I think there are like 10 other people hooked up on my box so thats why its really slow, or maybe I've just gotten used to it:confused:

I have SBC/YAHOO DSL and I have no problems. It does take them a hot minute to get the modem speeds down right but once it is done, it is done.

I am not a fan of SBC because I have had my fair share of problems, but I am getting the speed that I paid for plus some :)

i've got Verizon DSL at home and the school's T1 at UCI. the DSL is great.

Hey it got better already! I am really hoping it gets even better...that would justify the $40 my company's gonna pay out for me...

Woohhh ... thanks for the link. My connection is awesome it says im going at like 1301 kbps which is above the 1 mbit barrier

I use DSL and am happy with it.. although from time to time it chooses to shut down on me, well the whole house in fact due to somehting they are doing. but they do chose the worst times to do it
