why do some cars have wipers on the back when others do not? mostly minivans, but also some other types. at first i thought it was only flat back windows, but apparently not.

backing up is a b*tch when it's raining b/c everything is distorted. actually, it's more like backing up at night in the rain with tinted windows that's hard :o

I just dont back up at all..

But, when i was on a highway..it started raining very hard....so i turned on my wipers, and all of the sudden, my wiper got a seisure.....it took it exactly 5 seconds just to get from one side to another.....i bearly got off with out any accidents...i took a look later, and the scew that holds the wiper, broke it in half, and got lose...so needed to fix that asap....

usually only flatbacked cars like SUVs, vans, wagons, and hatchbacks have wipers on the back because the air has a tendancy to throw everything onto the back of said flatbacks because of the vacuum they create directly behind them when moving forward.

and really there is a huge need for it because when its raining my rear wiper needs to be on all the time. rain falling from the sky and rain coming up from the street both converge on the back of my car. its great.. haha.

and this belongs in autotalk.

The rear wiper is good! Mine automatically wipes the rear window when I put my car in Reverse :) Dunno about Mini ML Thomas, but when I park my car in the rain, then drive off, ALL the water from the roof 'sheets' down the rear windscreen :D The effect is  especially after the car has been polished/waxed ;)

The rear wiper on the W203 Sports Coupe is quite large, and hence also very good. :)

hmm i wish mine would go on automatically too but i also need it during forward driving during the rain too. so i guess its not that necessary for me. there is an option for rain sensing wipers for the VR6 GTi's and hella sells the kit so that anyone can do it but i don't think i'll be spending the money on it.

there is of course one intriguing upgrade i've seen.. and its really cheap. people have been taking the rear wiper from the new Audi A4 Avant and putting it on their Golfs. the spray nozzle goes with the wiper instead of the straight up stream i have and the wiper has a high quality plastic cover to make it look nice. its pretty cool.
