In terms of sourcing a VERY SKILLED (McIntosh experienced) installer in the Bay Area, I have chosen
Rolling Thunder Media (San Rafael); their work is ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE!!!

Can anybody post the link to some Russian dude's (ya eeee-vo-veee-shhhooo, moi brot) 500E/E500 that had a 2-tone interior,
with a McIntosh CD signal-source and a McIntosh MPM4000 Power Output Meter?

I *THINK* both were mounted in the center console (I don't see HOW), but I need visual proof. It's going to be a PITA to make both fit in the W124 ("V" decrementing) center console!!!

This may have been on mercedesshop.com... which has been down all day (what's the SCOOP with all the forums CRASHING?).

Help!

Thanks, in advance...

(EDIT: Scotty - when are you going to be in the Biggity Bay ("'Frisco," for all those out-o'-towners who FRONT the 70's slang)?

YES - THANK YOU!!!

(As feared, it looks like I may have to bevel the sides of my MPM4000; however, I will NOT leave its
aluminum side-rails their normal color. I prefer that the vocabulary of my black center console
be repeated, so I will black anodize all aluminum pieces - on the MX4000, too.)

Run.exe,

holy crap man. I have to pay you some respect for doing a Macintosh/Dynaudio system. Total class! Most people, (due to the whole Fast and the Furious gen-xr's IMHO is to blame) think that brands like Crunch and JVC, etc are "hi-end". LOL!!!

Not you man, you know what's up. Much respect!

Me, I am going to go all A/D/S when I am ready to upgrade.
Extremely warm and accurate.

Schaltwerk,

Thank you for your compliments; I must admit that I have been hoping for YEARS to have an all McIntosh and Dynaudio setup...
but I have not been able to until now.

I had to choose between a RENNtech brake upgrade and re-doing my ICE, so I chose the ICE! I hope/plan to revisit my brake setup next year (ASAP), though the BergWerks blower project will probably bve wrapping up by then - in which case, I will be adding 100+ BHP and 100 lb-ft. of torque to my 500E!

I respect everyone who takes pride in their rides; budgets change over the years - but the spirit of modding is a common denominator / independent variable.

Good luck on your own ICE project!

thats insane, i thought i've seen clean but that just blows my mind and the glove compartment works too. That really classy, also that MCintosh HU is so nice, they sure know how to mod there cars in Japan.

RUN your setup sounds insane, can't wait till see it, You've got some top notch mods in your car. You remind of someone last year on this board who went haywire modding everything from ICE to a BLOWER. I guess when it rains, it pours. Can't wait till see all your mods man.

THANK YOU SCOTT! It was driving me up the wall trying to remember where I saw those McIntosh meters mounted below the glove compartment. S124 is like one of my fav sites and I was looking everywhere but that car. I wanted to ask you about what you thought about that. To me, it looks really good to the eye when no-one is sitting there, but with someone in the car it may be distracting and annoying, although the knees sit further back than that and shouldn't get in the way. Of course, Japanese people are not exactly wearing size 22 shoes either. If you want to take Shaq around in your car, don't place your meters there! ;)

I have decided to run a single MPM4000 in the center console; 2 are overkill.

All my amps are metered - and will be in my trunk, anyway.

I really do NOT feel comfortable compromising any passenger's safety.

ScottyC190E
06-07-2003, 02:04 PM
Did you notice that in the pic below the top and bottom trim for the amp are carbon fiber and not aluminum? Do you plan to use any cf in your install of these components? If so, do you feel like there is a stopping point for "too much" cf in your car? Not that I particularly feel this way, but just curious.

I may, in fact, have Thomas laminate (in silver c-f trim) the aluminum side-rails of all my McIntosh amps;
inside the center consoile, though, all aluminum side-rails will be black (Mil-spec) anodized.

I don't want my gear to be too visible to smash-n-grab types...

"Just a moment... just a moment..." (in my best HAL-9000 voice)

I just remembered I'm NOT Shaquille O. - and that I do NOT have an unlimited budget.

My local shop (whose work I loved) wants $4000 to install my ICE!!!

I'm in need of some SERIOUS help, here, regarding finding an installer who can hook me up for at LEAST half that price!!!

Ideas, anyone?

kameraguy
06-12-2003, 04:46 PM
Call me ignorant, but $4,000 just for an install?! OMFG!!

*faint*

That's insane?!! or is it?!!

And that's just the install?!!!

Well, i hope you find a better price with quality work Scott. I'm rooting for ya man. As little as i do know about car Audio, i DO know McIntosh is quality stuff, so i'd definitely love to see your finished project!

I mean... Photo Boi...

Can you hook me up with a Hasselblad PME45 metered prism for less than $900?

If not, how about a 50mm or 80mm Hassie CFE or CFi lens (clean/scratch-free optics) for less than $1K?

I hate to hijack my own thread, but...

RSVP / thanks,

run.exe,

oh good lord bro your trunk is pure sickness if that's yours.

my budget has been "pkill -9" 'nd for a while but I can only
hope that my future full on A/D/S system would ever hope to be as warm and accurate of what you're building. I have a long love
affair with A/D/S but a full on Macintosh and Dynaudio system
completely makes my boxers run out of room real quick. If you
get my drift.

I love to see shit like this. At the moment I am working on
my A/D/S and NAD Silver Series hi-fi system @ home and have little cash to be dumping into my car at the moment. But I respect
your choices FULL ON! for Fk's sake that's gonna be sick.

FINALLY, I'm starting to make some headway.

Precision Car Stereo can hook me up for right around $2,750 USD.

I'm leaning towards them, at this point.

When I went to their shop, today, in Mountain View, I saw:

- a Lamborghini Diablo
- an ML 55 AMG
- a new Mini (cute, but weak)
- an E55 AMG
- one of those fugly BMW "toad-wagon-esque" M-series "roaster-things" (I won't even pretend to know WTF that's all about)
- a few Lexus offerings

Simon Yiu and his crew are significantly more personable than Rolling Thunder staff - the "buying an engagement ring"
high-pressure tactics and leering atmosphere are pleasantly omitted. I can do without the overt "well, if you want the
best work, you've got to realize that it comes at a premium price...all things being equal, and they're NOT..." water-torture mantra.

Besides, I have worked with them over the course of the last 5+ years.

Stay tuned...
