Would you say that a car cover would help a car against theft/vandals/dings/dents in public areas? These e46 guys think that a car cover is useless and has no use in protecting a car.

give me your opinion guys, if anyone can give me some good examples how car covers dont help, then I'll stop using mine to prevent break ins/theft/vandalism.

it wont help...i think it will attract more attention to a thief/vandal because chances are a nice car (such as yours ;) ) is under that cover being protected...:)

I read up... LMAO.. clown.
Whenever I see a car that is covered up I think "Damn, must be an extra nice car tha the owner doesnt want me to see or doesnt want to get hurt." So I walk past it, lift it to see what's under.
Now if I'm a badguy, I'd be "ohh shhoott,, guys loves his car, I'm gonna fkuc w/ it b/c it's worst than just messing any other car, might as well make someone HELLA mad.
u feel me? And if you use it at school then you're just asking for trouble. I'd beat the crap out of your car for that b/c Im a poor student who drives an Echo.

I would use mine at my apt just to prevent from too much dust settling on it during the week. But I would never use it in a public place, as that attracts too much attention IMO. Heck, I don't even bring the cover with me when the car goes out.
Maybe you can have a Buick logo embroidered onto the cover. :D

Nope, won't help at all, and the thieves might even steal the cover. Just park your car near other expensive modded cars so the thieves will pick them. =)

Luwin, your car is pretty flashy/eye catching. I would say that a car like yours would attract more attention w/o a car cover then with one.

lol stop being in denial mang. Car covers will attract attention no matter what is under it, or next to it. That's it and that's all. Trust me. I'm ghetto, I know.

i cover mine up but only overnight if i have to park outside.. and then only if its clean. otherwise i won't cover cause i don't want the cover to scrape the dust across my car. i'd never use it out in public at all but i will use it if my car is parked for an extended period of time

naw, i still say that a flashy car w/ a car cover on will deter theft/vandalism/damage. It's worked for me so far

Keep using the cover! Do you have one that you can lock? I will be getting a cover for my car this week. I don't really want to use it for deterring theives as much as I want to use it for deterring dust particles. :D
I am not worried about clown ass people who want to lift the cover, because I have an alarm and when they lift the cover the alarm will go off.
I would not use a car cover as a substitute for an alarm.

Actually I think a car cover is a good idea...at your home
but u risk scratching :(
I bet most of the vandals are the ones that just pic a car cuz its an easy target.. like the kids stealing letters or taking hte MB symbols.
If there is any bit of protection its usally enough to make them find a different car...

car covers are a nice touch. they keep your loved one nice and cozy, but as a "vandal" deterent... no, not at all. if some punk kid wants to mess with cars, there really is no point to argue whether or not a cover would deter him/her. its just your luck. if they wanted to mess with cars, cover or no cover, they will mess with cars. i i think other factors would be more important to whether or not your cars gets messed with, lighting conditions, proximity to homes, police activity in the area.
unless it was a planned event ( ie they know you, they want to f*ck you over) acts of vandalisms are random. theft well thats a bit different.
if a car had a cover on it, it would not stop someone from messing with the car any more or any less. its your luck. make your luck better by parking in better areas, away from dark spot in parking lots, closer to your house, etc.
what a cover( a good cover) is good for is to protect your car from the elements.
btw, you guys know what thermite (spelling) is? made from rust produced in a salt water brine and a nail with a current going through it, and some readily available household products. kind of a pasty substance, melts through metal like it was jello. if i was a vandal, a car cover would not protect your car from me.

henry, knock on wood.... this sounds a bit weird to me. how do you know its working? because it didn't get messed with?
i can say that my **enter any item** protects (deters) me from dying. i'm not dead right. ;)
but then again, whatever gives you piece of mind, that does let you enjoy your time away from your car.

Im saying that so far with my car cover on, i've had less incidents where my car has been dinged/etc etc as opposed to when I first got my car without using a car cover. I've had incidents where people would come up to my car, peek through the windows, touch the emblems, examine the rims, etc. Since I had my car cover, i haven't noticed anyone paying any special attention to my car.

I'm with the school of thought that believes that it'll attract more attention. I just don't put a cover on. Yes, my car does look flashy but I think it'll peak more curosity if I put a cover on it. Some people just want to look....
