Calls for God upset phone-owner
The new US blockbuster Bruce Almighty may be reaping huge profits around America, but it is causing almighty headaches for Dawn Jenkins, a glassmaker from Florida.

In the film, God tries to reach a mortal - the character played by Jim Carrey - by repeatedly leaving a phone number on his pager.
But instead of the usual 555 prefix used by most US television shows and films, God's number is a common seven digit exchange - which matches Ms Jenkins' mobile phone.

After the film was released on Friday, Ms Jenkins says she has been getting about 20 calls per hour, with callers asking for God before hanging up.

"What am I to do?" Ms Jenkins wrote on an internet forum.

"I e-mailed Universal Studios about this issue... I think I want payment".

Ms Jenkins said she did not want to use call-blocking or call-intercepting services offered by her telephone company, as this could harm her business.

Instead, she has been contemplating hiring an attorney, according to the Associated Press news agency.

'Aggravated to death'

But Ms Jenkins is not alone trying to cope with the avalanche of phone calls.

"God's" number matches a call centre to a group of five talk-radio stations in Colorado.

"My receptionist is going to go crazy," senior vice president for the Radio Colorado Network Ron Nickel was quoted as saying by the Associated Press.

And the trouble does not stop here.

Apparently, the number on Carrey's character's pager matches the number of a woman in South Carolina.

The woman declined to give her name, saying only that she has been "getting aggravated to death" by the incessant calling.

so you think Universal Studios will be forced to embed a disclaimer in the "guilty" scenes saying, "this is NOT God's real phone number"?

why didn't they just use the normal 555 number?

oh great, another law suit  GET A LIFE LADY!! I mean come on! all you have to do is go to the phone service procvider, and get your number switched! Obviously she doesn't have that many customers if they are all able to get a hold of her on her cell phone anyways.

What are you talking about?? Obviously you do not own your own business or aren't in sales of any kind. I am a commission mortgage broker and 95% of my business requires clients to call my cell 7 days a week all hours of the day. If I were to change numbers, all my advertisments, business cards, correspondence materials, cards I have given out already and other misc communications would be rendered useless. It can be done but for me it would take at least 3 months of call forwarding to another number and incurring 2 cell bills just for a stupid movie and a couple of IDIOTIC movie makers. And all my clients call my cell, which is a differentiation I provide to most other brokers..

So sad... the movie tried to make it more realistic I bet with putting out a more "real" number out there...

I just don't understand how it can be the same number for like 3 different people!

Yes, that was strange...all they had to do was get an 800 number, would have looked better also.

God would have an 800 number you know what I mean, plus the number could spell something (800 call god) as well...might be taken though.

If this goes to court, damages should only be any dollar figures lost she could prove by changing a phone. But knowing our jury system, she will get $100 billion in pain and suffering.
