if you have cruise control, i think it's going to go crazy and not work anymore. When I was running a staggered set up, my set up wasn't even like yours by like .1" and the dealership said this was the cause of my cruise control problems. The car thinks that the front wheels were spinning and didn't have traction. But then again the dealer's pretty dumb about this kind of stuff because this happened right after I bought new tires and I got the exact same size as before w/o any problems

235F and 245R. i tried to run 265R but i had too much rubbing so TWS recommended 245 and it works fine now.

ok, so i have smaller wheels than you, with same width tires, so i should not worry about whter they will fit or not....or stick out

If the wheel is meant to be 3 pc. then it could be possible to go as wide as 2 inches with some modification like bubble flair your fenders.

What's your offset F/R? That's what really determines if they stick out or not, not the width.

Those are one piece wheels, it just has the 3 piece look to it. I dont think lip size matters on fitment, as long as the offset is right. I just never heard of anyone using a non staggered setup but use different sized tires for front and rear.

yeah, its really the offset that determines if your tires are going to stick out

i've seen cars w/ same width rim all the way around but runnin only a 20mm different tire in front than rear. I understand they want the "staggered" look, but it doesnt really help if the rims aren't staggered. I would've just got the same size tire all the way around so I can rotate.

So what's the purpose of getting a set of 3 pc rims if u can only go as wide as 245.....  :o
Henry47
05-27-2003, 09:52 PM
when I ordered the rim, I didn'tk now that i would only be able to fit 245. When i had 19x9R before 265 fit perfectly, but when we put 265 on the 19x9.5, there was a whole lot of rubbing. Plus, I wanted a fatty lip in the rear

So why you did'nt just go all the way and have your fenders flair out... plus TWS never told you that you might have a problem with the 265 tire and went ahead order the rims for you?
After you got it installed and that's the only time they figured out that you should go for 245? :o sounded like a trial and error fitting.... no wonder W420 had to go back and forth every weekend for his... :o

I rub in the front when I turn, but not in the rear. I only rub because my car is too low. If I raised the front .5" then I'd have absolutely no problems

yeah, TWS didn't anticipate any problems with my set up because as i said already, I ran a 265 on a 9" before without rubbing, so I guessed they thought that an extra .5" wouldn't have been a problem, but if it did become a problem they would be able to take care of it. At the end, the rubbing was WAY too much and I was rubbing a lot on the fender AND gas line and plus they were closing shop so we just threw a 245 on there and it worked fine.

I'm one of them... I'm running same width rim all around (9.5) with 245 in front & 275 in rear.
Oh BTW, I didn't go with stagger wheels setup cuz 9.5 was the ONLY offset available for my wheels.

haha, so you remembered.. :D
I had to go back every weekend cuz I was using the kind of wheels that are not meant to fit W210 in the first place, and I was using the kind of brakes that are not meant to be used with the kind of wheels I was using in the place (problem with clearance on the flat dish wheel), so it took a lot lott lottt of time and effort to finally get them to all work together finally and I'm glad TWS backed me up 100% to make this happen. I wouldn't have this problem if I decided to use the RIGHT offset of wheels in the first place, but you know W420, he's a bimbo every now and then. haha :D

i just took a look at the tracking of the package and it says that it arrived here to GA, but its not leaving for my house yet...and that was the 27th...so i guess i still have some more time to wait....
Next to that...im not sure that i want to put the wheels on my car until i actually drop it. Cause its gonna look like an Ugly SUV, with big wheels, low profile tires, and no drop...
My friend says i should do it just because of that..so that when i get a drop, its gonna be major difference in the look

Man, when i had the accident like month and a half ago with my geo..i had to fix it my self, so i stripped the whole front of the car down.. i took the front bumper off, and i also took the front dented frame off, so that i can make it straight again, and i swear my geo looked like the freakin YUGO..

The wheels are by Forte...They seem to be a good brand...theyre new so this is like a promotion of the wheels that is why theyre cheap....so as the get to be known they gonna cost much much more

Elvir - if that is what you think, well then fine.
My car is debaged, because I like the clean look. I am not trying to fool anyone that it is a C43. In fact, before my MB I had a Jetta GLX, with the VR6 badge on it, which I took off. That was the top of the line Jetta - once again, I like the clean look. I am sure the Renn 208 wanted people to think that he had more than a CLK 55 as well

ok here is the deal guyz....I went to the local Mercedes shop (VERY NICE GUYZ, just expensive), and they let me borrow the shorter lugs but just 5 enough to fit one wheel..so..i put it on, and BAM.....it works.....the car looks so cool....i am loving it....it sits a tad bit higher...but not that much to notice...but the fender gap in the rear, is about half smaller than what is in hte front....the tires i looked at the car form the back and compared the stock tire to the 245 tire and what a difference.....NOw the only problem i have is i need to wait 7 freakin days before they come to their store...so its waiting again..which sucks

But..it's not a muscle car! Trust me dropped is Waayyy better!
And as for the rubbing, I doubt it'll rub like a mofo. Maybe in the front. While I have no experience w/ w202 the W124 is known to be trickier to fit 18's on, and the only problem I had was w/ the front wheels rubbing. nothing that can't be fixed.

Just take a Hacksaw and cut the lug nuts to the right length, then with a small file clean up the fresh cut ends to remove the burrs.
One hour max and you are done.

Yes listen to the Dr., after all they don't call Dr. for no reason.
Droping you car is not just for looks, your car will handle a lot better, My wheels are tucked about 1/2 in under the fender and dont even rub if i am by myself. I rub a little when i do fast turns and thats about it.
I remember when i first got my wheels too, i liked it but seriously looked like i was going off roading. There was a 4 in gap between the fender and wheel. I didn't lower it till 2 months later when my friends bought me some springs b/c they couldn't stand the look. Then i bougth shocks like 5 month later when i could couldn't stand the crappy ride any more.
I was just like you, i wanted to wait until i had enought money to do it all at once, I had to save up like 600 which is really hard for me. the point here to do it one by one take it slow your cars not going anywhere. It'll allow you to savor every little mod you do to your car. Your shocks are probably still good just look for leaks.
If you want to know how to lower your car email me i'll help you step by step, took me an average of 1 hour each side, the only special tool you need is a ball joint seperator. The back takes 20 20 mins each side. Shocks are cake.
ABOUT LUGS
just slice it and save your self some money for springs.

ok i went to the dealer again...and he was able to find used lugs, but he only had 13 of them...pritty good conditoin...he gave them to me for $1.00 each..
But the rest of the 7, i have to order..and they cost $5.20 each.
So alltogether it will cost about $40 bucks..
if he did not sell me the 13 for a buck, it would come to about $110 dolars something like that so im happy..
714Guy,
I only put the rear wheel on...and there was about an 1.3 gap between the fender and the wheel...when a person sat in the rear, it came to 0.00 gap. so i know if i drop it, its gonna tuck in..
The front i did not try...but im sure the gap will decrease too.
SO.....as for the drop...like i said i want to do it...but it will take some time, since i have to fix up my geo its gonna cost me about 500 bucks to do all the crap i need to do....

Noooooooooo.......NOT YET.....If that car dies....part of me will surly die....i have to repare her...

dude, when you get new springs, more force is needed to compress those springs to the point where they will rub when driving. you saw that when two people sat in the rear of your car that only then the rear fender lined up with the top of the tire.
fender rolling? you saw that the insides of the rear fenders might cause some problems with rubbing. dude, you should so get the suspension kit and not worry about your GEO (except the clutch).

I'll donate $3.00 for your Geo. Get a gallon of Supreme 91 octane gas and a lighter then light it up and let it burn. You still got enough change for some bubble gum to chew while you watch your GEO burn to ashes. :P :D ;)

jre,
you are too cruel(spelling)...i would not leave u with my geo for a mili second:p
the reason that im stressing about the geo is because that car makes me money....if i did not have that car, then i would not be able to work, and pay off my bills....so that is why its crussial for me to fix it...which i will...im not gonna let it burn...it would hurt too much:(
Anyway.....waiting sucks.....i have about 6 more days before i put my wheels on...this is a true torture......something happened to one of my rear wheels too....the wind blew and they fell down, and got a very minor sratch..

C280 JR, I had the same problem of lugnuts that were too long once when I bought a set of replica AMG's. I took it to a local euro tuner shop and he slapped on some bolts from a 95 Passat and I never had any problems. I looked at both the bolts, and except for being shorter, they were pretty much identical. You'll also save some buck that way and might be able to pick some up from a VW parts counter instead of waiting.
If its not to late, you might want to look into it.
wow..this post has 7 pages...and no pics

Spring setup sounds good, If you wanna save $$ Do the shocks laters. Your stockies will be fine with the Eibachs for a little while..

im not sure about that...cause if i do that im gonna kill the stock shocks....and i will still need to bring the car back to stock hight eventually, and then i will need to buy new shocks, cause the ones i have now would be totaly wasted...so ill just wait and do the whole thing at once...plus doing all that dirty work is not all that fun, knowing how long it takes...so i do not want to do it twice

Ahhhh Grashoppa.. You never go back. once in the mighty blackhole of tuning you keep on going, If you mod and worry about putting it back to stock you will go crazy..
It was a suggestion to save money. If you can afford it do it..

yeah*DUUUUUUDE* listen to us Califorinians, we live in the Car modding Mecca, just look at all the tuner companies, they are all chillen in Socal.
Elvir
Just drop that sucker, then do the shocks later, they are extremmely simple and will take less than 2 hours and thats with an hour lunch break. Screw trying to save the stock shocks ride it till they die then get new ones.
