Just got to find out if it's OK for the needle to hover around 85ish while idling in traffic, with the ac off and stuff, with only music playing.
Mostly it's around the standard 80 but I get nervous when it touches 85. Is that normal?
Thanks for your input, guys!

normal ;)

euro engines tends to run a bit hotter

and anything under the the 85 makes (is actually the 100 mark) is normal caz you aux fans dun even kick in below 100

My car always runs at 100C. It doesn't matter if its 50F outside or 110F.

My car has been running hot, usually it hovers a hair or two over 80, but if its a hot day with the AC on it can climb up really high if I let it. Anything over 85 makes me really uncomfortable so I turn off the AC and the temps go back down. I plan on getting it checked out at the next oil change. Luckily things should be cooling down around here soon™...

In winter/autumn/spring without aircon, it'll stay put @ 80.
Put the aircon on and it's on 90.
Anything above 30°C outside and it'll breach 100.
I've seen 110, and was assured "that's normal".  :(

My car sitting at idle or even LA traffic will not go over 100c. Usually sits around 95-96C. If driving, and depends on ambient temp. It sits at 82-86C.

I have never seen the car go above the 100C mark.

Maybe a radiator fluch/check is in order - just to ease your mind

And with that, moving to 'Engine Tuning' ;) (A place for performance, queries and problems :))

last month i was driving through the CA desert going to LV and it was 115F outside and i was pushing the car at times with the AC full blasted and driving constantly above 75-80mph my temp was a tad bit below the 100 mark (95ish) and when i stop for gas for about 5-10min when i first start it back up it will be sitting a tad bit pas 100 but then it'll go right back down after the engine ran for about 2-4 mins

normally my car will be between 80-100 sometimes it'll be almost touching 100 if i push it hard on a hot day (ie local hard driving etc.)

mjones your car looks a bit hot but then i know they use a diff thermostate MBZ that's going to diff places in the world ie i know the my mom's and others MB in HK run a little cool (just at 80 all day no matter how hot or cold it is outside and if AC is on full blasted or not) it'll almost never touch the 100 mark

i have been told that as long as is not hitting 120 is all good

I agree with Doc...something is wrong...have your thermo checked. Should run around 78 - 83.

yep it should be running around 80 normally, I live in so cal where its always hot even with a/c on it runs around 80, but recently mine has been running at 90 consistenly without a/c. I am goin to change the thermostat soon and let you know how it goes. Its a really easy and cheap fix and is ususally the culprit.

:) Sounds familiar... "As long as it doesn't go into that red bit, IT'S FINE."
The pic was taken in the middle of the Kalahari desert, aircon on full blast and cruising at about 3800rpm. The outside temp display tells the rest of the story...
Unfortunately, I do see those kind of temps on a hot day in traffic as well...

208 just above 80 when freeway crusin, or with the heater on full blast and just under 100 during times of heat stress (slow city driving)

210 almost always stays right at 80 no matter what.
