So I'm trying to ship stock 16" chromies off a W210 with tires on it. Each tire/wheel weights 40.8lbs.
FedEx said: $60 ea, including the circular cardbox cutout on the face of the wheels, where basically, the tire itself acts as protection/box.
UPS (mail box ETC) said: I Forgot, but it was some ridiculous price.
I wanted to keep the shipping at around $100, as I will split the shipping costs with the buyer.
The wheels/tires will be going from California (93420) to PA (17872)
Anybody got a tip?

No "Shipping" tips, but good luck and let us know how it turns out.
Those rates seem kind of high.

get a FedEx commercial account. then you can ship from home and fudge on your package weights. Also, if you let most of the air out of the tires, it'll cut back drastically on the weight.
edit - and since this is about wheels and tires, that's where it's going

I have bought and sold a million set of wheels online, shipping average, for wheels and tires (and keep in mind these have been 18") is usually around $100 for all four.

UP who did you use to ship?
I went to USPS today: $37 for 41lbs ea. And that's w/o packaging.

For the mone, I think USPS are definitely the best, that if and until the package gets lost. Use them all the time, never a problem yet!

UPS. In fact, over summer I ordered set of 17" wheels/tires from Springfield, IL and it was $75 for all four (from business address to business address)

Yeah scott's right, letting air out of the tires doesnt help very much, maybe half a pound or a pound. Its not worth the time.
Dr. Since the summer shipping prices on wheels/tires have almost doubled. I was assuming a set to be sent out for about 100 dollars as well, but it ended up costing me 160 fedex ground, not including packaging.
A good idea is sending greyhound bus, but you will have to drop them at the station and the person will have to pick them up.
The next idea would be possibly a freight company, but then youd have to put them on an pallet and stuff.
Email me personally if you need more help.

Well I sent them, cost was $167 with insurance (for $600) and confirmation, via USPS.
