Well I did it. Everone was to scared being an AMG purist & all so I'll be the guinea pig. I guess someone has to cut a car that 5,000 examples were made worldwide? Screw it.

Factory resonator is a straight through design with metal packing behind perforated metal. It has a chamber in the middle of the packing. It weighs in the neighborhood of 12 lbs. My butt dyno cannot tell a difference and it shouldnt considering it is straight through to begin with, but my ears are happier! Hell, I may have even lost a couple hp - or gained 1ft lb here or there - I dont know, but slightly, & I mean slightly more cabin noise but deeper sound in the low range. It is especially noticable in the garage when I got home. My girl was chillin inside watchin tv and she said my car sounded different when I pulled in. I like it. This mod is not night or day but a subtle increase in the low end audible range. Cannot tell if it is noisier at high rpm's yet? I only put 5 miles on it so far. $40 bucks spent & it took 20 minutes to do.

I saved the resonator if I decide to put it back on for some reason later on. Installation was cut & weld not flanged. Flanges of the type on there would require bone-yard hunting & extra complexity with fab w/ no real advantage except for personal feelings about how it looks. No regrets!

pics.........
notice the center section is of different color due to heat difference b/c no 'packing' in middle. (Notice scrapes after being lowered) 2 1/2" inlet, 3" outlet to muffler.

Oh yhea, Less scraping due to increased ground clearance!

Looks clean! Good job! You'll have the 'REMUS' effect now.

Kiley,
Get yourself a Hi-Flow cat now.

nice i did the same thing

no reso 3 in mandrel pipe from cat back

REMUS at the end and is sounds nice

(but i should've gone 2.5 in with the 2.8L w202)

What will be louder , AMG muff or Remus??

Tommy(///amg124) I know your E sounds like a proper V8 now with gutted catz, no reso & the Remus!

Remus is quiet... AMG is better :P

You can increase the sound yet again with a high flow CAT... it will channel!

You mean, Cat(s) - I got 2 of 'em! I could gut em then run a $.19c resistor on the second O2 sensor to trick my ECU, but then my car will stink!

Or you can just put two high flow cats per Speedybenz's plan. :) for cheap!

Catalytic converters convert carbon monoxide to carbon dioxide after they get up to operating temperature. The ECU on post '94 MB's (OBDII compliant) knows if the Cats are doing their job cleaning the air or not. A trouble code will show in the computer if the 2nd O2 sensor behind the cat is not working properly or 'faking' the ECU into thinking the cats are cleaning the air. The sensor operates within a certain acceptable 'range'. The proper resistor wired or soldered in on the 12v side(not ground) of the sensor wire should prevent 'check engine' lights! It will not fake the air quality inspectors at inspection time though? It is not worth it to me contributing to the destruction of the ozone layer over a meager 5-6hp increase and 5-6db noise increase!

But you're absolutely right - no need to do more damage. :)

Try out the Sebring muffler.

3.6,

Sounds like the exact outcome when I did the same to mine. I little deeper sound in the low end but no pwr difference. I thinking of going with 2 high flow cats also, like Jeremy's. his car sounds so much better. May be even new mandral bent pipping from the cats to the muffler.

I'm wondering if this will make a small noticible pwr gain?

oosix,

I agree w/ your idea on Y-pipe & cats. It makes more sense to open up any restrictions closer to the engine since the rule on making power is doing things closer to the motors valves. Bigger Y-pipe diameters & cats will do more than a muffler usually. There is also an M104 stainless header avail. through Bekkers @ $1,400 bucks! That will do the most I think since even the C36 M104 cyl head didnt get any porting on the exhaust side from AMG(just the intakes?)

Heres what I found (sadly no pic though)

http://www.bekkers.com/Merchant2/merchant....=mheaderexhaust (http://www.bekkers.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=BI&Product_Code=BICM104&Category_Code=mheaderexhaust)

I figure a header, some type of air intake mods & ECU re-tune can put a C36 at 25-35 more hp & easily make it a 100 - 102 mph car in the quarter. Only problem is dont have $2,800 bucks though to do the $600 ECU, $1,500 header & fabed Y-pipe/ random cats.

Hmmm, I didn't really think of the pre-cat y-pipe. Sounds like something to seriously think about. Yeah, the supersprint headers r really pricey. I asked Speedybenz about them b4 and he thinks they'll make the engine lose low end tq but gain high end power.
