Hello! I'm new to the site. I'm mostly an Audi guy but I love Mercedes-Benz too.

I don't currently own a MBz but I have been kicking a few tires. Mostly been looking at W126 420 and 560SE and SEL's. Also been considering W124 300E or TE's as a supplementary daily driver alongside my Audi's.

My first experience with Mercedes was a mid 1970s 220S or something along those lines. Compact car, small I4 engine, but WOW, I was amazed by the quality. It was pretty much a base model but I've had a passion for Mercedes-Benz since.



I've also always wanted to own a W-107 560SL. :eek: :cool:

Is there a buyer's guide for the W124 somewhere?

I'm concerned about the auto transmission. I see alot of 200k + benz saying they have rebuilt trannies. I'm worried if I get one with around 150k mi. it will crap out on me soon and leave me with expensive repairs. If I got a MBz I'd likely be keeping it around for a couple of years.

And yeah, after driving both, I do prefer the 300E over the bigger SE's :P

A w124 300TE is most definitely nice. We have a member who dropped a C36 engine into one!

Welcome aboard... 300TE's are very nice indeed. Most of the tranny problems I thought were with the older W123's but I may be wrong. My car needed a new tranny, but not until 235k

Yes, I am that guy. I haven't been on Vortex in a while however. That place has just gone down the tubes.

i still find a lot of useful information there.. but its hard to sift through all the mess in the mkIV forum. honestly i fit in better here anyway.
