Ok here's what I'm thinkg about doing:
Alpine CVA 1004 6.5inch lcd in dash
Alpine 6 disc changer mp3/cd
IconTV dvd singledin in dash
XM tuner and Antenna
OR
Alpine IVA D900 7inch LCD which includes Mp3 capabilities, in dash single CD/DVD player.
For about 300 dollars more than the above.
Then add about 250-300 for XM.
So that's about $600 extra, which would pay for 2 12W6 new and an amp.
IVA D900 is better quality than CVA D900.
BUT, I was thinking, waht if something breaks? W/ the first setup, it's easy to just replace the broken component. With the IVA D900, stuff breaks, you're SOL and gotta replace the whole thing.
What would you suggest?
alpine won't break foo... unless you spill donut jelly fill all over the place.
edit: get the iva-d900, i didn't know they had a cva-d900.. it's all about integration w/ less remotes.

True, the D900 has better integration, but still, in the unlikely event that the unit goes bust, screen breaks out of warranty, etc, the damage would be considerably less w/ the 1004.
Then again, I'd love to get the D900, so I can say "See Team Hybrid, I gots the top of the line."

If that were really the case, you would be getting an Alpine in-dash DVD rather than the IconTV, no? :P

edit - I suggested Clarion to him, but he gets off on having Alpine for some reason....maybe the fact that all of Ford's top-line stereos are Alpine :P

lol the only reason I want Alpine is because it's the ish, but more importantly because it's XM ready (the other XM ready company would be pioneer, and that's a no no).
Kris, I have heard that Clarion (all-in-one) decks tend to generate lots of heat... sometimes even overheat... have you witnessed any of it or is it just an urban legend?

touch screen is good for a while......but after a while it wont work because of the grease on peoples fingers

Urban legend. The contacts are behind the plastic film where people push the 'button.' So eat fries all you want.
I decided to go with the first option where components are separated, so no D900 for me.

Tonight I stopped by Circuit City and looked at the 1004....
And well...it's a bit...how you say... deprived of features. My previous Alpine deck had more settings and was better than this one is.
IVA D900 it is baby.
edit: hanky panky, dont forget to bring the XM stuff at the hybrid meet.

And you gotta stop calling yourself poor. I used to believe it but now I really don't buy it anymore.... Got 210 and in 2 weeks got wheels, suspension and bodykit (and maybe other gadgets I might have missed). Sister's ride -> all fixed up. Dad's ride -> all fixed up. Poor my a$$. lol. :D
