As a newbie on the block, I would have bought a 280 or a 36 or 42, but the funds were limited at the time, but the mileage on the 220 was very low for the age, a one owner car and I couldnt pass up the great driveability..so for now its all I got. In the meantime, I wanted to know in terms of availability intakes, and ECU upgrades. The last question is that for the price, hp gains is it worth it to do, or should I just put the $$ into the ice?

Thanks..concerned..

Mosselman Turbo is your best option.

Honestly I wouldn't touch the motor. HP gains are minimal, unless you are willing to put spend more then what the car is worth. Even with a turbo you wouldn't be able to beat a C36 or C43. If I were you I would get some "ice" and work on the looks of the car. Body kit, rims, and drop it and you're set.

That's what I did for my car, I have a 300E with a 2.6 engine that puts out only 158 hp. Nothing wrong with a car that's just looks...in my opinion there are 3 ways that a car can be nice..

1. Very good looking (body kit, rims, drop, etc. all appearance mods)

2. Very fast

3. Both (very few out there, true ones are AMGs or M series BMWs)

Actually, that's not totally accurate :D

My C220 was running low 14's consistently in the 1/4 mile (with a best of 14.3) almost every other weekend from Spring through the Fall of last year. This was with my custom turbo set-up on the bone stock motor with over 100,000 miles on it (i.e. no internal mods) running on 9psi of boost. Yep, that's a 4 banger running faster than a C36 or C43. I actually did beat both a 36 & 43 at different times in true side by side drags (also in time-slips) at Portland International Raceway.

It's unfortunate that my new engine (with the beefed up internals) caught fire just prior to making it to the track. In tuning/testing with 13psi of boost, it was clear (according to my GTech) that it was going to be a mid to low 13 second car. That's quite a bit faster than a C36 or C43. ;)

Oh well... was fun while it lasted! ;)

I guess the C36 and C43 won in the long run. ;) j/k You have to ask yourself though, was it worth it? I highly doubt it. All that work just to be equal with a C36 or C43, then to see it just go all down the drain. A C220 is not worth the engine mods.

'AMG or nothing' is right. :)

JasonH is right you can get that engine to have good power.

Thanks again guys for the honest truth. I kind of knew the answer before submitting, but I wanted to get the responses out in the open.. I appreciate that, truly. I will just work on some wheels, ice and xenons. In the meantime, I will be hunting for a 36 or a 45 in the near future.
