HPS Owner Showcase

Name: Mike Mitchell
Location: Marysville, WA
Machine: C43 AMG

Mike Mitchell is a man of many interests Grand National boat racing, mining, scuba diving, and installing hurricane-proof two-way radio systems in the Philippines, to name just a few.

As you might have guessed, the HPS supercharger system is another of his interests, namely the one bolted to the top of his 1999 C43 AMG. While the car is not quite as powerful as his 925 horsepower speedboat, Mike insists that it’s a lot smoother and easier to maneuver. At full tilt, Mike says the HPS-powered C43’s thrust is “awesome." In truth, Mike describes it in terms a little more, shall we say, colorful. Let's just say that he’s pleased with his purchase.

Nightmare Racing, owned by Mike and his partner Greg Gluck of Miami, is currently ranked second nationally, a bit of a disappointment considering his team’s national championship last year. It's still an improvement over years past, when he flipped his boat and found himself recovering in the hospital instead of winning trophies.

“Flipping a boat is the easy part. It’s the recovery that hurts,” explains Mike. He should know; he’s been through it twice.

Mike shopped around before settling on HPS. “HPS offers the most fun per buck, by far,” says Mike.

But what sold Mike on HPS was the personal attention he received from HPS.

“They tell it like it is, straight up. I think it’s that aerospace engineering attitude that sets them apart. When you call them, they’re right there and they know what they’re talking about.” Mike would know, another of his interests is tuning street cars, like a 600 horsepower BMW M3 convertible he recently sold.

Over the course of three trips to California from his home in Marysville, Washington, Mike says the car has retained its comfort and composure, with no noticeable decrease in fuel economy and loads of giddyup for those long, flat stretches of desert road. And Mike's not the only one who enjoys his HPS-powered car. His girlfriend volunteered some of her own thoughts.

“I’ve never felt anything like it in my life. I’ve been in a lot of fast cars, but the way the HPS supercharger system pushes you back into the seat is like nothing I’ve ever been in,” she boasts. That includes Mike’s other car, a 1996 Porsche 911 Cabriolet.

As for reliability, all we can say is that the car has held up much better than the Pirellis; the last set went only 2200 miles due to Mike’s admittedly “enthusiastic” driving. He’s had no problems with the supercharger system since the day it was installed.

Finally, Mike returned to the subject of the HPS customer support. “The thing that finally sold me on HPS was their engineering support. You don’t get that level of support with the other companies out there. They don’t beat around the bush, and they’re always there to answer my questions.”
