Waiting sucks
There was this one flight out of Hong Kong where I went to go inspect the right engine (of my Boeing 757) and heard this horrible grinding noise. Because I have a degree for Commercial avation operation and service, I know how to fly the aircraft, and take it apart. So I requested a noise/ or external obstruction check of the engine (should only take approx 10 minutes) but after the proper mechanics came, I recommended they shut down the engine completely. Its always good to have more than one opinion. After doing so, 7 of the blades of the engine were extrememly bent out of shape. So It took 4 hours to track down another plane... everybody was pissed at me... but If we had gotten onto the runway and powered up, we would have run out of runway and still be on the ground... or in the ocean! So, it turns out that a bird was sucked into the engine upon landing on the last flight. There was a warning on my flight to airport computer.

How did you have a layover for so long? Both times when i took a flight back to HK via asiana and korean air, the layover was no more than 2 hrs...i was flying out of sfo, could that made a difference?

well since HK was SARS infected they only had a few people flying in per day and few people leaving every day so they cut the flight frequency to 1 perday at 12.40am. so the earliest flight from Seoul to LAX was at 3pm. BTW korean air is the best..good service

know you left already but, what i meant was avoiding souveniers that require a visit to the clinic to get rid of. ;)
