Hey guys,
I was wondering where you can buy or rent a spring compressor. What is the best kind to use? (Pics) And also how much? Here is a cool one I found being used on a Japanese site:

Scotty,
You can rent them at Performance Products.

The spring compressor they are using looks like the Klann KL-0025 (http://www.etoolcart.com/product.asp?0=203&1=240&3=3809) . That link will take you to an online store that sells them. Not cheap! You can also get the Sir Tools knock-off version at the same store or also Performance Products.

$900! So how do I rent one from Performance Products? I didn't see anything on the site about renting. Maybe Autozone or Pepboys would be easier?

Scotty, send a message to Joelm777 at 190rev, he's in the bay area and I believe he has the MB coil spring compressor.

U don't really need a spring compressor to dismount mb springs. I've seen my install guy take out springs on my 201 & 202.

1) He lifts up the car and places jacks on both left & right sides of the car (under the car's jack pads). 2)Takes of the tires, 3)uses a hydralic jack under the control arm so it compresses the spring as the arm is moved upwards, 3) unscrews lower control arm screws at the inner pivots, 4) unscrews a screw that keeps the spring attached to the lower control arm, 5) lowers the jack slowly and the spring comes right off. Process for left and right takes him about 20 mins total to take out and reinstall. Doesn't dismount the shocks.

He does have a floor standing spring comprssor for Macpherson struts.

Scotty,

If you plan to work like the guys on that site (outdoors with minimal tools), buy a simple $20-40 compressor from any auto shop. I perfer two hooks kind instead of the four hooks due to the limited room Merc has.

If you happen to have jackstands and jack... simple unbolt your lower arms from the inside (only one bolt each corner). The springs come out with ease. Use jack to to jack up the lower arm back into place.

I am lucky enough to have complete tools/5000lbs lift available to me. I use tranny jack for the lower arm. It took no more than half hour to do all 4. Good luck
