Anyone know how to get the dipstick for the tranny in a C43? In my C36 it was easy but for the C43 I cant find it. Or better, I think I found it but it had a red tab which broke off when I attempted to get it off. Still cant get it to come undone... maybe im just breaking stuff...

You car has a "maintenance free" transmission (no dipstick). The cap you broke was the tamper proof cap that sits in place of the dipstick. You should have that replaced :0)

I've heard good and bad things about that sealed tranny, how many miles do you have in your car? Why were you trying to check it?

BrabusCclass,

The tranny cap is the one with the tamperproof tab on it. Now that you broke that of just take a small pick, flat blade and push it down further until you can pull the cap off.

There is no dip stick for the tranny, but you can buy one from MB part #140 589 15 21 00.

You slide the dip stick down into the tranny untill you feel it hit the pan and stops. Don't push too hard or you will not get an accurate measurment. Make sure the tranny is hot and the car is level and in Park.

I have been using Mobil 1 ATF syn. and I am getting good results.

I have heard that the tranny fluid never has to be changed or something. But others say change it regulary. what to do?

AS they say "nothing lasts forever" and that will definently will apply to your auto trans if you leave the stock fluid in forever. Forever really means untill your tranny breaks and you get to pay MB for a new one at about 75,000 miles.

Thanks for the info. Ill try it tomorrow. On my C36 I used to always run Mobile 1 ATF. Run fine. Right now I feel a little bit of a kick when its cold. Im thinking the oil might be losing its viscosity so I wanted to see the color, etc. :D

Yeah, IMO, "lifetime tranny fluid" usually lasts for the lifetime of the warranty and after that, you're assed out. I changed my fluid when I hit 100k miles. The fluid was in pretty good condition and the tranny looked perfect, but it's better to be safe than sorry. On that note, you shouldn't use anything besides the OEM fluid, even though it's pricey.
