Need A Head Unit

my stock LCD screan is going black, and i need a new head unit..what do u suggest, nothing fancy or expensive, mabye something with remote control..and for my stock speakers what should i go with 45x4 or 50x4...thanks ahead

If you're gonna be using your stock speakers, it won't matter what the power rating for the HU is.


You will be using your stock mercedes amp and its stock (most likely 2ohms) speakers.

Get some regular Alpine CD player.

Unless he decides to bypass it. I don't remember what the power rating on the stock bose amp is for the W202.

It actually might be more powerful than an aftermarket HU. I installed an HU in my friends 202 and built a ported enclosure for him.

Elvir if you want something cheap hit the flea market up and haggle them. Theirs one off of Gleenwood Road on I-285 and one off of Wesley Chapell.

They have Alpine, Clarion, Pioneer and alot of other stuff.

im not big on the brands, but i want something with reputation, prolly like pioneer, or alpine, kenwood, and between a 150-200 budget...

im also thinking mabye if i buy from best buy over 150 id get a free instalation....and no i dont want nothing flashy

Elvir i got a Pioneer deck i had in my C36. I bought it 2 weeks before i totaled my car. It has Detacheding face, remote 2 preouts, CD, radio no mp3. It was 260.00 new i will sell it to you for 160.00 its pretty much brand new. I am getting a nakamichi CD-400 so i no longer need it

i went to circuit city and saw a nice cd player for 170 free instalation..only thing that they will charge me for is to re-rout the amp

best buy is gay.they told me that my bose speakers are 2 oms, instead of 4, thinking im stupid, and they said that i have to buy brand new speakers so that these would not burn my CD PLAYER..im like WTF....i ask them how long are u working here..they just wanted more money..

Elvir why dont you just do it your self, they have more than enought info on Club202 to do you car. Also i think the bose speakers are 2 ohms but there running off the factory amp thats why it works. You can't runn those speakers off the deck, your going to have to also a get a HI-lo converter to use the aftermarket HU with the Bose speaker/amp combo. Read it all up on club202.

im so F**kin pissed off..i got 3 different stories from 3 comapnies..you heard about the first one...the Circuit city they tried to panhandle me..first they told me 40 to rerout my amp, now 100, plus that my car would need another amp which is 200.. HIFIBUYs, told me that all i need is a CD player and nothing else, no amps....so now i dont know who to listen to nor trust

You can re wire amp. But it does not have to be done. Just get a VW wire harness and follow the no brainer steps. Connect colors and so on. Presto!! not rocket science!

the thing is the guyz told me that even tho i would have to re rout the amp, that i still need to put in another amp to power the 7 speakers and 2 tweeters that i have, cause if i dont then i would loose major power...i dont know if that is true, or if they are trying to do a major panhandling job on me

I dont believe you even bothered to actaully looked. Because if you would have you would have found post by members with wire diagrams and additional equipment needed on how to put an aftermarket radio in a stock 202 to work with the factory amp/speaker combo.

However, if you looked and found but dont understand because of your car audio skill level then that is a different situation in which you should inlist the services of a car stero shop and pay for them to install your system. As you have stated that the information on these websites are of no use to you.

Please do understand that installing car audio electronics does require some previous knowledge and that is why if you dont know you actually have to pay someone for their knowledge.

This thread has ran its course as you have selected a radio. I wish you luck in your installation be it you choose to use the information here to install it or to pay a shop to install it for you.
