View Full Version : my next mod: Bi-Xenon headlamp upgrade

I have just acquired (from a friend with a CLK 55) the following:
quantity: 2 (left and right sides)
Mercedes-Benz P/N # 203-820-25-26
description: Bi-Xenon HID ballasts (made in France), connectors, and bulbs
Given that these parts list for $450.00 per side (plus tax), I SCORED!!!
All I had to do in return was build a simple LAN and install some software!
As Mr. Checkov was fond of saying, "No problim, Keptin."
Stay tuned...

I don't mean to be a clown with this reply, but have any 500E/E500 owners tried using R129 Projector/Xenon headlights in their cars  Or is the size and agle an issue  Or maybe even W140 lights  I dunno, just a thought :)
Scott: You need one of those alarms that messages you when it is triggered! As long as your in a 'mobile service area', you've got nothing to worry about

I was on another Benz discussion board and someone mentioned that there is a W202 projector kit assembly
in some taiwan car part catalog somewhere. I would be interested in seeing what they look like if one could track it down. I wouldn't begin to know how to research something like that though.
I know all you 'OEM" heads wouldn't be interested, but
I think as this is a HUGE issue at this point without the
option for headlight projector assemblies that all options
should be kept open.
Does anyone out there have access or friends that can get
some sick ass heavy duty catalogs from oversees from the Orient
and possibly see if there is an application available for the
W202 regarding projector assemblies?
If there are can I say GROUP BUY??

Most lilkely, I will shelf my bi-Xenon project, in favor of the following (more light/brighter light):
1) install headlamp relays using 10-ga. wire ( http://lighting.mbz.org/ ) along with Hella ceramic hi-temp H4 connectors (http://lighting.mbz.org/tech/relays/relays.html)
2) upgrade to OSRAM or Narva Rallye H4 bulbs (130/100)
3) upgrade H3 high-beams to relays & 10-ga. wire and 80W or 100W bulbs (http://lighting.mbz.org)
4) upgrade to an S-class (150-Amp) alternator with 2-ga. wire running from the alternator to the battery
5) install a relay to activate LOW beams as well as HIGH beams
For details, please see:

Can you put a projector beam into that housing??? It might reflect all weird and cause the light to scatter every which way.
Also, by bi-xenon do you mean both high and low beam or low beam and center fogs??? Because the new systems just have a shifting deflector and not a separate bulb system... :P

No problem, my friend.
FYI - the Halogen upgrade will cost no more than $300.00 USD (plus a lot of elbow-grease).
Most likely, I will post my HID / Xenon parts for sale, in the near future...

whats up with this?? u the mod pimp giving up on bi-xenons!!
Its not an easy project to do.. but I'm very confident it will work out for my W202.
I have one headlight nearing completion.. just need to wire it and align and glue the prejectors in place.. make a custom clear lense to stop any difusion of light.
My bi-xenons r low and high beam xenons.. theres a baffle that moves via a solenoid attached to the projector to give u "high beam".
I'm putting the fog light where the high beam used to be in my stock W202 headlight with a projector lense in front of it!

whats up with this?? u the mod pimp giving up on bi-xenons!!
Having corresponded, at length, with the Lighting Guru (Daniel Stern), himself, I have opted for the brightest/most efficient/safest/best solution for my W124-036.
I wish you luck in your project; however, I no longer have enthusiasm for a (merely 40%-45% efficient) bi-Xenon solution for my particular application.
Kind regards,
CKlasse

Schaltwerk,
Where are you in Denver? Perhaps we could do xenon project with clear lenses for W202... sort of saving time/$ on the R/D.
I just rented a workshop bay for 2 weeks in downtown... It would be a perfect timing to do any mod project.
sorry for the thread hijacking! :D :D

Please see my first post, in this thread.
The parts I have list for $450 (EACH).
I will sell the entire bi-Xenon kit-of-parts I have for $300.00 USD
(buyer pays shipping)... which is my "help-my-homies @ bnzsport.com" price.
Considering the blood, sweat, and tears ANY such project will ential, this sale will, of course,
be FINAL and ONLY to the most hard-core of MODDERS!

Mikey...Mikey...Mikey. Just when you thought you knew something it appears that you don't.
Upgrading headlights is not wasting money, like putting in a DVD screen for no one to look at.
The US headlights are OK at best when it comes to lighting and everyone, even you (at least I thought) knows that. I have standard US headlights in my E500 and I have never upgraded them to anything (no I don't have Euros).
Also, I have already stated that I may or may not get rid of my E500 when I purchase my CL600. I may get rid of my E420 (which also has standard lights which are craked and need replacement) or I may get rid of my E500, I am not sure just yet.
If you are going to try to own someone, make sure you have the money to pay for them or you will get your a$$ beat like you stole something. Don't try to finance what is not in your budget.
