so on my ricer forum, they have a photography thread, members post pictures they've taken. apparently there's tons of ppl interested in this hobbie and some are rather professional!! i thought what a good idea to start on here on bnzsport since i dont see any.... prove me wrong... i knw we've got a pro here *cough* kamera guy *cough* but just wanted to see others who enjoys this hobbie just as much as i do! i'll contribute first. these were all taken with my Canon A70 and a tripod, so the quality isn't exactly national geographic but it'll do for now, until i get enough extra cash to invest in a pro camera.

Who said it was me? ;) Well, since I was't driving, and it's not even my car, I can't say for sure...but from the angle of the light defraction and the telltale dust particles, I would say that it's likely to be on a Southern Cali freeway somewhere out in the middle of nowhere.

I do know however, that the driver said that going 150+ in a straight line is still nothing compared taking on the nine turns of willow at much slower speeds.

LOL!! man I wish that was true!

Actually I have used many disposeable cameras and sometimes the grainy fuzzy pics look kinda cool. If you blur things enough it might even be considered art! :P

Well I agree both ways. Good equipment is never a bad thing. But it's only as good as how it's used. I don't mean this about me. What I mean is in general. Like if you are a very good driver and you have reached the limits of your car, maybe a faster car would allow you to go faster. But say that same car in the hands of a slower driver, that person may never need or want a faster car.

I never had all my gear as one lump purchase. I've bought stuff as I needed it. So if you find the gear is holding you back, upgrade! :)

The worst thing is buying something that over-exceeds your needs. It's fine if you intend to use the extra functionality later. But if you don't....

Just like my DH mountain bike. I THOUGHT I would get into DH racing but nope. Now I have this dope bike, but I probably only push it to 4/10ths the limit. d'oh!! I don't even ride it anymore because I feel ridiculous to have such a bike now :P

Well, for the xterra shot that was a company across the street from mine. They went out of business so there was nobody around, hehehehe.

The W203 was on top of my parking garage....again when there was nobody around hehehehe :)

The portrait was taken at a park across the street from her place. Funny thing was that the blue background came from a less-than-flattering source. It is a blue door to a Janitor's closet at the park :P Again, nobody was around....hmmm, there seems to be a consistent theme of having nobody around when i shoot! :blink:

G500 was at the side parking lot next to Scorchie's warehouse.

The Cusco was in Nokia's backyard.

The mini-z was in my cube at work.

The bits were in my living room.

As for exposures I don't remember them but I think if you view the pics in a program that reads EXIF it might still be there :)

Patz, yeah those cars are pretty much the same thing. Technically the one I shot was a Tomy brand car. It is their newer Super Bit Char-G series. I liked the GT2 body and the LEDs were possible. They are a bit pricer though. This one was $35 online. But the detail and overall quality is higher than the $10 ones. Whether it's worth 3x the price I guess depends on the person though. Unfortunately Tomy is the only one making a good looking micro GT-2 at this time :(

Joey, hyperfocusing is next to impossible with the G-series as you can't see the aperture scale in real time. But here's a secret about the Powershots. Use the "mountain" setting on the G-dial, and the camera hyperfocuses automatically :) They don't tell you this in the manual though! Ah, those wacky Japanese engineers!

Remember a while back when I was set on the 300D I did my firmware research first :P

But in the end its still a hack and the ai doesnt work quite like the 10D. You have to do funky things with the shutter etc....

So while it makes it cool to have a hacked 300D its just better getting the all natural 10D

But since J_ got the body already he might wanna try the hack. And ya gotta admit you wanna see what happens when you shoot at ISO 3200

here are some pics form shanghai, i just got the 300D so not too familiar with the settings, and kinda in a rush with taking pictures all in 1 day yesterday, i'll be coming back to vancouver tomorrow:

first one is a pano of "pu dong" from the bund "wai tan"
taking this picture got me so angry and pissed off, first the story:

because there was sooooooooooo many ppl at the bund that night, i was standing on a pile of elevated dirt along with 20 other ppl to get a better view. apparently that pile of crappy "dirt" was topsoil for grass that hasnt grown and was "forbiddened" to stand on (no sign stating that). So these 2 ghetto patrollers walk over and one of the yells at everyone to get off, when i turn to look at him and see whats goin on and make out what he's saying, the other *** yanks my tripod hard and screams at me to get off. i was so shocked and grab the other end. then I begin in a tug of war with my tripod as the rope (300D was still attached) praying that the fool wouldnt do anything stupid and smash my camera. once my gf starts yelling at him he FINALLY lets go. i quickly took off the camera from the tripod and safely put it in my bag thanking god that it didnt get smashed after 2 days of owning it. then i fold up my tripod legs, hold it in my hand and rage struck me and i was going to go ape $h!t on that guy... then the cops came. i figured my life was worth way more than that poor useless patroller so i stopped myself from beating him. i walk to the cops and tell them the story, the biatch got scared and tries to yank my tripod from me once again and threatens to hit my gf cause she's yelling at him. my gf was like "hit me biatch" lol, but seriously if he hit her i woulda killed him. anyway, the only settlement i got was the cop saying he'll inform the patroller's supervisor, which i know he wont :(

anyway, will a 300D break from 45 seconds of violent shaking?

I never used the 300D so I don't know how well it will do with IR. But in general, IR is a snap with digital. All you need is an IR filter.

Then just mess with the exposure and bracket your focus as you will focus on the IR wavelengths. If the 300D offers live preview, this is a bit easier. But if it doesn't, then use your IR scale on your lens to focuse (if it has one). If not, then you will need to manually calculate the IR focus.

D'oh! Well if that's the case with the 300D, then what you need to do is practice bracketing the focus point. Most lenses have a second scale for IR photography, which makes focusing a snap. But if not make sure to hyperfocus. This will address the back-focusing you need to do for IR. I have a writeup in the digital darkroom for this if you want to know more :)

And you are right. Camera bodies are "expendable" in the sense you will most likely upgrade this element as things get better (especially with a digital system). But the Lenses are crucial. if possible, never skimp on the lens. As crazy as it sounds, afford the best glass possible. Obviously the lens will play a tremendous part in the quality of the images.

It might even be 2x or more the cost of the body. But Lenses are the "best" investment. Whereas a DSLR body will become outdated year after year (which will most likely be replaced sooner than later), a solid lens should last you a lifetime :)
