basically this story is about me being reckless.. very reckless. i am still surprised i did it and actually ashamed. however the story is interesting and actually pretty funny. but i will probably never ever do something like this again...
so the story goes like this. i was on MacArthur in Irvine CA on the stretch between PCH and Bison. for those that know the area you'll remember its a long sequence of flat straightaways and long shallow curves. PERFECT for going fast. and in fact the speed limit is around 55-60mph which is the fastest surface street speed i can remember.
for a few lights this silver S2000 was showing off to everyone around him. gunning his engine and slowing down and speeding up. i look over and its some late middle aged dude and his wife driving around with the top down. i've seen kids act like this but come on, you're a full grown adult dude, act like one. anyway at the very top of a hill is the next light. hes right next to me. light turns green and we take off as normal. hes about a half car length in front of me but then he decides to just rest beside my car. why he did this i have no idea, maybe he wanted me to look over and admire the visor he was wearing and the common silver paint his S2000 ( and thousands of others) was dressed in.
he keeps pace with me never pulling forward or dropping behind. i HATE this as it decreases the area with which i can move in case of sudden emergency. so he drops back a bit and i just floor it in 4th to get away from him. he takes the bait and comes after me. i had a good, one to two car length lead on him so he never passed me. i switched to fifth and kept accelerating. i see 95mph come and go and i swing right into 100mph territory. hes still there. finally a few seconds later i'm at 110mph and i think i better stop, this is f****** rediculous. so i let off the gas and look in my mirror. the S2000 is way far behind!! wtf? he should have anhilated me. i mean there is no contest between my car and an S2000 so what gives. well as i slow down i see his wife moving very fast in the passenger seat, arms flailing all over. as we pull to the next light he gets over to the farthest lane away from me that he can.
i look over and his wife is screaming at him. she is so pissed and he looks scared. i figured out that the ONLY reason i won is because i was the more stupid and daring of the drivers and that the guy's wife made him stop. as i neared the street i needed to turn right on i slowed down and all of the sudden he does a CLASSIC ricer fly-by. i was laughing so hard i nearly missed the turn. this full grown adult was trying to show me up when i couldn't do anything about it.
afterwards i told a friend about it and said i didn't feel like it was a real kill. his response was, "hey man a kill is a kill. you can't win races by acting like a ***** no matter what car you drive."
