View Full Version : Supercharger Lag?

You know how superchargers are suppose to not have lag, but work consistently through out the rpm scale unlike Turbos that need to build up boost...

sometimes, when I mash the pedal on my car, i don't get much power, but I hear something strange (don't really know how to explain it, like something is building up) the car looses it's low end, but after a second or two, I get this amazing about of boost that rockets the car ahead.

Is this normal or is there something wrong with the SC on my car?

That occurs around the 2-4k rpm range in 2nd or 3rd gear, right? That's an issue with the 99 models - something to do with the turbulence from the intercooler interfering with the MAF. It kinda feels like your motor hits an empty spot when it kicks down before rocketing ahead, right?

Try to do a search on MAF relocation on the boards - it's pretty much a DIY installation. But if you go Kleemann for the pulley kit, it includes the MAF relocation in their kit.

Yes, this was a common problem/issue that people found but luckily it's an easy fix, unlike other situations :P

If your car is still stock, then it the work of the SC clutch switch on when under load. If you have pulley upgrade, then you need to relocate your MAS/MAF. If you don't have pulley upgrade yet, then drop me an e-mail if you want info on the ASP pulley upgrade.

Linh,

Can you please post up the info on the 202 ASP pulley upgrade, including the following bits on information?

HP gain
Torque gain
Reliability in the long-term
Price of the kit itself, and what it includes
Estimated time/cost of install

I have a few fellow 202ers that have been asking me about the kit, but I only have info/experience about the Kleemann.

Thanks in advance!

Yeah, my car is still pretty much stock. It only has a KN Filter and a Upsolute chip.

Will this be a problem in the wrong run? I don't really feel like spending 1800$ for the whole Kleeman Pulley/MAF/S sensor relocation thing...

If this is more of a "it's suppose to do that because that's the way it is from the factory" instead of a "problem" then I'll just leave it be.

and about the ASP pulley, i thought it was only for the w203's?, can you post a whole different topic/thread about it? I'm kinda interested in it, because I always hear about Kleeman and none of the others. Thanks Linh.
