Has anyone here ever installed a computer in their car? I have been thinking about this for a long time now, just basically get the hard drive in there really, so i can play all my MP3's and convert movies onto the hard drive and play those...

i also heard that you can modify a PS2 to become a computer, any insight???

I'm sure you could just plug in a laptop :) But if a cop sees it in your car at night he can pull you over.

Just put a computer in the trunk. It would be just as easy as buying that expensive system and putting it in because assembling a computer takes less than an hour and would cost a quarter of that thing. Putting in an Xbox with linux or a ps2 with linux would be an option, but I find myself asking why? The main thing you have to worry about is choosing a proper screen or other form of interface. If you want just songs with no lcd, you can always rig up a keypad to select the song of your choice or even put some forward, back, stop etc. buttons and have a LCD of VFD on your dash to tell you what song you are playing. Otherwise, you are going to want a decent sized screen with a high resolution so you can see things and preferably a touch screen interface. You can do a wireless keyboard and mouse, but hunting for the keyboard to change songs when you are driving isn't the most practical thing in the world.

The Mother Board is a VIA Epia 800 (mini-ITX 800 Mhz C3 Proc., with LAN, SoundCard, Video Out, 2 USB ports), 12V DC-DC ATX Power supply(sproggy 2.8), CDRom Slim, HD 2,5" 40Gb....;). The Screen is a TFT 7" VGA with TouchScreen and it gives 2 Video Inputs too.
With such configuration you'll enjoy GPS navigation (by using an USB GPS mouse), MP3 music incl. Winamp AVS, Divx Movies, JPEG Slide Shows....

you could accomplish the mp3 and movie playing by installing a hacked x-box in your car. a x-box with xbox media player/center will give you the functionality to play movies/mp3s/divx/etc... in your car.
