When I had my alternator rebuilt, my ex-boss (mechanic) told me he was told that mercedes alts generally generate less amperage then most cars. I.E. Cav 115 amp compared to 84 amps on a bens or something like that. Leads me to believe that the alt is always overworked.
Anyone have any insight?
Edit: mech was told by the guy who specializes in rebuilding alternators who then told me.

I think the Mercedes have a higher output than usual to compensate for the increase amount of electronics and power consumption

The rebuilder told my mech the opposite. The alt supplied is actually underrated and working harder then usual.

'97 C36 come with 115 amps and that is more than enough for all the electronics in your car. Older year of C36 come with 85/90 amps alternator.
However, '98 C43 come with 150 amps alternator. I believe you can just swap them easily.
