Every major tuner does intake, exhuast, suspension, etc. What ever happen to performance headers? I mean...does anyone swap headers on thier MBs?

EVOsport is working on a set.
The demand for Headers for MB's is pretty small.
R&D costs are very high if you do it right.

SuperSprint had them at one time. Not sure if they still do. From what my friend experienced from putting on Mugen headers on an s2k, he lost low end torque. Overall, the car felt slower on every gear until it hits 6300 rpm. Funny thing is that the V-tec hit at 6k rpm before. Maybe a benz will react better.
I heard that there is not much improvement to be had from the stock MB headers, they're that good.

Agreed, I brought mine to a local performance shop for turbo application. They said, unless I am planning to do 15psi etc.. the header, downpipe, and cat are sufficient enough. They are 21/2" already!

well.they maybe beig..but do they flow well? I looked at the stock m104 header and it looks restrictive. It bends in weird angles.

Compare it to the headers in an IS300. Now those look restrictive! They're tiny...like the hose you attach to ur sprinkler. :D

The stock part in our cars isn't a header, it's really an exhaust manifold. Headers are usually designed so that each exhaust outlet for each cyclinder bank runs an equal length to the downpipe, before entering the cats. This way, the exhaust from any given cyclinder bank clears in the cats without having other cyclinder bank's exhaust gases jaming into the trail, adding restriction.
From what 2phasted posted from his experience on his Vette, headers causes low end torque loss, ie; less take off power on each gear at lower rpm. But, your suppose to get gains at higher rpm ranges. This is what happened to my friends s2k. from 1k to 6.3k, the car felt noticbly slower. After 6.3k, it begins to take off. N e gains? not sure, b/c before the headers, the V-tec kicked in at 6k. Now it's actually worse b/c it doesn't start til 6.3. Too little room between 6.3 and 9k rpm to positively comfirm any gain in torque or pwr. Maybe, but IMO not worth the $1500 bucks he spent on it.

If you got headers on a manual stick it sound good when you accelerate and down shifting. But on an automatic car.... what do you think it would sound like?  :o :bored:

Bekker's makes a set of headers for the M103 and M104, but as other have said it reduces low end torque by a good deal. Only useful if you are tracking the car and keep the rpm up.
