What is it you're unsure about?
I'm not an expert, but that looks like the old five-oh. 500E?

I agree with you (for once!), it takes too long to get the revs up, but the high end pull is intoxicating. Once she's up on her cams, it's all gravy.

now I got question

does anyone know if R129 SL 500 has the same engine as 500E/E500 W124...

Anyone has the spec on these 2 cars..handy...???

I always thought that E500/500E is rare...and limited production (meaning not shared on other chassis model)

Engine in the 500e is fromt he 500SL, but with a difference int he fuel injection I believe.

But thats what mercedes used for the 500E, pretty much just grabbed the 500sl engine dropped it in, but made a slight change to the fuel injection as far as I know.

but that car from what I can see looks like a w124 to me. If you notice the edge of the corner light, seems much more vertical, unlike the SL, where the edge of the corner light on the feder is more angled.

I have read the history of 500E/E500 W124, and porsche actually built the engine..

now is this the engine the put on SL500... ?? I am curious :)

I've also read several histories on the 500E/E500, usually dubbed the "4-door Porsche", and so far I don't find any mention of Porsche's involvment beyond the chassis/handling. I understand the drivetrain is all Benz.

Here's a quote from an article found at <http://www.mercedesshop.com/500e.htm>: "The W124 chassis was fortified with Porsche's help to ensure this car performed flawlessly in all aspects."

I'd like to know where you got that information.:beard:

also, in answer to the question: does anyone know if R129 SL 500 has the same engine as 500E/E500 W124...

I think i remember the answer is yes,...I'm gonna look now for that article and get back with confirmation...

best regards

As far as I understand it the 500E/E500 for W124 was developed and handbuilt by porsche.
Porsche might tweak the suspension and chassis a little bit to help compensate the extra power....

What I said, that I don't think it was mentioned anywhere that this engine being used at any other chassis than W124

That's why originally I posted if anyone know 500E/E500 has the same excat engine with SL500 R129..

btw here is another link of W124 500E/E500 history

The 500e was partly assembled att he prosche factory ont he 959 Assembly line because it was too wide for the standard w124 assembly line. The cars were carted back and forth between porsche and MB, taking 3 weeks to build each one.

Check this link for all you could want to know.
