its that time again. the greatest race!

well its only about 24 hours before the 2003 24 hour of lemans starts. the greatest race in the world. im going to watch the entire wace (pull an all nighter) there will be a strong showing from porsche, bentley, corvette and audi as always. i think there will be a showing by pagani zonda as well (mb power). ive got butterflys in my stomach as i wait a year for this race in inpatient anticipation. this should be a great race, despite the restrictor plates on all the cars (the top speeds will be much lower, as they are down on about 10% hp)

bentley is doing well, one audi RAN OUT OF FUEL WITH 6 MILES TO THE PITS! (somone is gonna get a lashing for that one) the top 4 look like this bentley, bentley, audi,audi judd/lola (then panoz in lmp9000)

The Bently 8's are largely rebodied Audis. A lot of the components are the same except for the suspension and a few other things. Ferrari is doing really well too.

I'd like to see Benz return and participate in the 24 hours race.

the bentleys are VERY different, yes its an r8 in many ways, but they are totally different cars. and i dont think we will see mb anytime soon, they really seem to be backing out of motorsport. yes they are still in dtm, but i dont even know if thats a factory effort. yes they are in f1, but f1 really just feeds ego's thats about it. the bentleys ended a 70+ year drought today, and ran a great race, the audi's had a good day, but they could have done much better. not one of the best 24's ive ever seen, but it was a good race. btw the pagani is mb powered :)

yes DTM is a factory effort, and their F1 program costs them hundreds of millions of dollars a year... I think mercedes and motorsports are so entwined there's no way for them to withdraw, because they have such a rich history. The reason they arent doing the lemans thing is because their arrangement with chrysler was that chrysler would run at lemans instead of mercedes, as well as the dodge vipers. Mercedes proved it could dominate the FIA-GT circuit a couple of years ago by winnin just about every race with the CLK-GTR, but then the flying/bad aerodynamics incident tarnished their image more than the two championships helped it so they went on hiatus.

they have a rich gp and endurance history, but im not familiar with their history in f1, you do know that "mclaren" was honda power then it was a "superpower"
