Mine was painted by the body shop (on the W202). I didn't de-chrome nothing. The shop was like "mmm paint won't stick". I told him to do it and put hella coats of paints on it. So far, no problems!

Wouldn't it be easier to just lightly sand the chrome with a high grit sandpaper first before you paint? Youy know, just scuff it a b it.

Another thought is take it to a place where they chrome parts, they should know really well.

Try sugarblasting it.... you will get "sweeter" results! What a lame joke, but I am serious... :werd:

1) polymer bead-blast / nutshell-blast (walnut & almond shells, etc.)
2) sandblast
3) heavy sanding
