I drove through to Cape Town last night for a good friend's birthday party. Cruising at 140km/h (about 88mph) a faster car approached from behind with only the bottom fogs blazing. I moved out of the lane as fast as I could to let him pass, but when he did I saw that it was an AMG kitted 202, a la C43, but debadged.
Now we didn't get any 202 AMG's, only the kits. The factory released exactly 50 C240's and 50 C280's with the C43 kit, and the occasional nutter ordered the $6000 kit with the C230Kompressor.
Back to last night though, and I really couldn't keep up as this Benz flewww past. He did know about the fixed speed camera though, so he slowed down to the posted limit of 120km/h. This gave me a chance to catch up... :D
No sooner had we passed the camera the fun began. At first I just slowly put my foot down (without kicking down) and he pulled a nice gap. There was too much traffic around though, so it was pretty pointless anyway... up to 180, down to 120 again to wait for traffic to move.
When we finally had an open road, I kicked down at 120km/h. By about 160km/h I had to lift off, as I was slowly reeling him in and would've run into him. B) Once in fourth gear, I kept flooring it and kept Mr.AMG very honest. He wasn't joking around, as we ventured past 200km/h a few times, only to slack down for traffic again. Every time I would have to lift off, so I eventually kept Mrs.Jones down in "3" as long as possible, as to better 'modulate' my attacks. :P
Once past the Cape Town Intl. airport, traffic picked up and we had to stomp the brakes from just under 200km/h. I've never felt such a horrible shudder in my life. :( That was also enough for me to join the responsible crowd and merge back into traffic. The AMG was struggling with traffic, and when it finally opened up I kicked down for old times sake to pull right up to him again and give him the hazards.
He replied and flew off into the distance.
Must've been a C240. :banana:
