Hi y'all it's Renn back on the checka after a bit of a break (and by break, I mean a you-know-what load of work). In any case, for this round, I'll be resuming the Eurotrip Series:
Part IVa, "It's pronounced Eshhtoril"
Yep, that's right we're back in Estoril Portugal, but instead of looking at MB's latest consumer offerings, we're here for one reason and one reason alone: Rennsport
http://www.jrentech.net/benz/Eurotrip/Part4/4a/IMG_0929sm.JPG
It's round 2 of the German Touring Car Championship (Deutche Tourenwagen Meisterschaft or simply DTM) and it couldn't be a more beautiful day to race. Luckily, I've got my trusty paddock pass so we'll snooping around as much as possible.

And lest you forget the slight marque bias we have here at BNZ, I'm here to cheer our boys on. Acres of hot team trailers line the aisle proudly waving their flags, but of course I'm partial to the ones from Affalterbach.

A favorite team of mine is the Original-Teile, or "Original Parts" squad. As most of you may already know, this team is the keeper of the "exploding engine" paint scheme- as much a work of art as it is engineering.
http://www.jrentech.net/benz/Eurotrip/Part4/4a/IMG_0996sm.jpg
The Original Teile team even has it's own matching ATV, carrying a day's worth of OZ superturismos trackside.

Here we have representatives of the three manufacturers competing in today's race: Opel, Audi and, Mercedes Benz. Although the TT will not be participating in the 2004 Season, it still competed (in modified form) in the 2004 24h race of the Nurburgring. It's replacement is the new Audi S4 backed by a full works effort. Also this season, MB has debuted it's new DTM competitor based on the model-update w203 chassis. It's all about 4-door banging this year! With full on factory competition, the Benz's aren't going to have a walk in the park.

As race time approaches, the drivers go on their customary parade lap to greet the crowds. Here we have multi-time DTM and FIA champion Bernd Schneider leading the parade in the SL65 from our previous article (http://www.bnzsport.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=12456).
http://www.jrentech.net/benz/Eurotrip/Part4/4a/IMG_1088sm.JPG
Also, some of Portugal's finest are out in force to represent the many nations involved in the day's race.
http://www.jrentech.net/benz/Eurotrip/Part4/4a/IMG_0903sm.JPG
And what's a German Touring Car race without a hot safety car? Mmm, C55 love.
http://www.jrentech.net/benz/Eurotrip/Part4/4a/IMG_1089sm.JPG
Here we have our pole sitting Audi being prepped for Mattias Ekstrom.
http://www.jrentech.net/benz/Eurotrip/Part4/4a/IMG_1095sm.JPG
And here are all the cars that will be gunning for him into turn one.
http://www.jrentech.net/benz/Eurotrip/Part4/4a/IMG_1102sm.JPG
A spot just after turn four provides the perfect opportunity to do some quick car spotting. The cars' high revving V8s all rumble at the same distinct pitch. The sights, sounds, and smells are all DTM--This Yellow S4's all AUDI.
http://www.jrentech.net/benz/Eurotrip/Part4/4a/IMG_1103sm.JPG
One of our boys...just making his way through the forest.
http://www.jrentech.net/benz/Eurotrip/Part4/4a/IMG_1104sm.JPG
The chase is on... How deep can you go?
http://www.jrentech.net/benz/Eurotrip/Part4/4a/IMG_0896sm.JPG
So that's why the engine's exploding from under the paintwork...it's going tooooooo fast!

Another shot of my fave car

Audi S-line car quick on its heels.

One of the MBs going in for a bit of work.

And another heading for the start-finish line

Can't see who won? Well, you're going to have to check it out on Speed TV when it airs on December 8th, or maybe wait for a future installment of "Eurotrip" For now, be sure to tune into the season opener from Hockenheim broadcasting on Speed tomorrow, Dec. 1st.
