Looking around for a part for a project, I stumbled across www.modacar.com (http://www.modacar.com). Seeing that their prices were reasonable, I called them and ordered. Since they are located in Pleasanton in the Bay Area, I was going to have my buddy pick up the part for me and ship it since they usually rape you on the shipping. So I OK'd it with them, and even gave them my buddy's name to clear him for the pickup.

That was Tuesday, June 17, 2003.

Today, June 19, 2003, I get a call from them, but not the guy I had placed the order with. They inform me that they can't have someone else other than the credit card holder pick the part up.

I'm like, ok - then ship it to me directly. Is the part in? They tell me, no - they haven't ordered it yet. Not that I'm in such a rush to get the part, but a customer should be able to expect that the order goes in the same time it is placed, right? So I call him out on that, and he tells me that someone just handed him the order this morning. So not cool . . .

Not only that, but they do not ship anywhere besides the credit card billing address. Since I'm poor and I live in a ghetto apartment, getting packages there is a pain, so I plead with him to ship it to my work. No can do. So I said, forget it. Thanks, but no thanks.

Looked online to see who else had the part. I came across www.gmpperformance.com (http://www.gmpperformance.com) and I called them and ordered from them - guy was totally nice on the phone, and it's being shipped out today. Got a great price, AND no sales tax! :D

Just wanted to share my experience with you guys -

So you are one of the victims of Modacar.com LOL!!!! their reputation really sucks !!! Even though you showed up on their door step they still won't release your part. The only way you could get your part is via courier. It will take a whole century before you could received what you ordered and after waiting for that long period of time you might just get a refund... :P  :)

At work I handle online transactions, and believe me, online fraud is a MAJOR pain in the as*. You have basturds coming in with 10-20 fraudulent orders a day, most easy to spot, but some not so easy. And the thing is, once you ship a product out, that's it. If it's fraud, you as a merchant are screwed. Not only will you be out of your inventory, but the bank will also ream you in the as* with a chargeback fee.

And the worst part... some people think it's the credit card companies that are so damn generous, when in fact it's the merchants that get raped. This further encourages criminals because they feel no sympathy for the big banks/credit card companies.

So nowadays people are paranoid. That's why you see so many stores now that won't ship out of the U.S/Canada, and will require that the shipment be sent to nowhere else but the billing address.

Blame the fraudsters for screwing up everything in life.
