true that...but then again, if u gonna spend that much money on a better maintained benz, u still would be better off spending a little more, and getting a whole new benz

While he's by far the exception, I think fad could prove otherwise. It's not so much the intial cash that you spend, as it is the willingness to learn and seek out a car that's right for your long term needs.
If you aren't willing to do the research and don't know what it will take to maintain a given car...then maybe a new car's the only option you have.
Yes you can get a used car for a fair price and not lose all of your savings just to keep it...it just takes more work on the part of the buyer.

I am confused... what is "Dissapintment"???
As a side note, I sold my 1997 E320 W210 in 2001 for my SLK. My 210 had over 110,000 miles and I bought it used when it had 27,000 miles on it. When I sold it, the mechanics jacked it up to see if they can low ball me due to condition and could not find a single oil leak or any other problem on a 4 year old car with over 100,000 miles on it. Further, I have never had ANY problems with any of my Mercedes cars, where as I had a number of problems with my other Japanese/English Domestic vehicles.

True...but elvir's wasn't a lemon to begin with...it was just in poor condition when he bought it. I don't know about you, but I don't think I would go for a 202 that needed an engine swap right off the bat, unless I had some really deep pockets and a whole lot more love.

a lil info on the car when i bought it!!
It turns out the previous owner was a woman....like any woman, they cant take care of a car for crap...so her car ran out of water, and she kept driving it...the car over heated and blew one of the cilinders..she put it up for sale at an auction....a local dealer bought the car but then realized that the car needs a new engine cause of the blown cylinder...so the car had 116K miles when that happened...the dealer simply bought an engine with 51K and put it in...when he did that he did the major tune up for the car, changing oil, and and all the filters....and put it up for sale..and I, never having an interest in a mercedes and knowing the price was affordable i bought it...i dont regret it at all!! i have spent mad money on tuning the car up...all the parts toatal cost me only about 400-500 bucks, but its the labor that ripped me off...that is why im desapointed that they have to charge that much!!

I do not regret diesel power. My W124 400e has 227,000 miles on the clock, no current problems. Engine is still very strong (when I floor it, It still gives me driving pleasure). Only things I've found problematic (all of which were over 150,000miles) were the transmission (replaced)and the AC Kompressor (replaced at 225,000 miles).
The lady I bought it from was a compelte idiot. Other than taking it in for regual service, she had no clue about anything. One of the buttons broke on the air conditioner, so she freaken superglued it . also, the rear view mirror glass fell out and she broke out the glue for that too, so it looks like sh!t At least when the AC was broken, its supergluded on Auto instead of full blast or none.
But thats about it. Day in and out I appreciate the elegance, comfort, and raw German power of my 1992 Benz
It turns out the previous owner was a woman....like any woman, they cant take care of a car for crap...
Totally untrue but I feel your pain. My car is much older an 89 which was owned by a female driever who neglected the car and let it sit in a parking lot for years. I got my car at a price I couldn't refuse. I've replaced the A/C, Head Lights Corners, and Tailights and a bunch of small things. As of right now I'm getting a W124 tranny cause I blew mine some time ago.
Basically I think if you take care of car the right way Mercedes or not it will last. And it helps if your friends dad is a manager at Mercedes stealership which I just found out and they live in my hood

its true....that is one thing i have to admit...but i also admit not every woman is like this...a woman car inthusiast will take care of her car cause she is involved in it...but like any other regular woman, to them its just a transportation....i look at my mom, and my sis...me and my dad have to take both of their cars...take them to regular services...cause they dont do it..we HAVE to...if i need to take my sisters car..it has coffee spiled in it...that is why my dad took the CD player out of my geo so that he can put it in the other one....cigarete burns...and its not just my mom and sis...i look at my friends, and other females cars from schoo....all the same deall.....so no offence to any women, but most of you cannot maintain a car..!!!!
Now. MB300E87, i dont know what kind of experiences u have:D

elvir your personal experience with just a few woman car owners is not a viable sample to make assumptions from.
its not that woman are worse than men at maintaining cars.. its that people in general do not maintain their cars up to our level of satisfaction. i know no one else who has a two year old car with no dings in it like mine. but thats just because like all enthusiasts i'm insane about my car at an unhealthy level.
to regulary people, male and female alike, cars are just transportation. i know many people who could care less about their car unless its not getting them to where they need to be.
if i were to make assumptions about the female car owning population, based on only my personal experience with them, then i would have to say that "women take better care of their cars than men do" because of my mother, who was modding cars before you were born, and because of my friend pictured here who washes cars and keeps them up better than anyone i know.

No offense bud... but most of people I've known, and I was working for VW of America marketing dept for awhile, would rather choose previously women-owned vehicles than men's ones. Reason being of course, the driving habits and tendency to follow 'factory scheduled maintenance.'

:werd: I would feel more comfortable actually to buy from a lady, say it was a nice, yet fast car like a C43, my friend's aunt owns one and she drives it like any other car...however once my friend hops into his C36, he drives that thing to the ground like theres no tomarrow.. I'd much rather own the C43;) , not for the engine, for the fact that it was babied.

"her car ran out of water" I think there is a light in side which tells you are out of water and also there is a temprature indicator...If that woman cannot use those..Using microwave can be a great danger for her.. :D
I bought a car from a woman (1992 190e 2.6)
Car was very clean, she bought the car from her
coworker and used it 10 years. (what a boring woman)
Her new car was e430 4matic in the garage probably for next
10 years.
Buying a car from a woman is an excellent idea in my opinion...

Elvir, it seems as though you have hoof-n-mouth disease. Don't worry it is easily curable, with excerising (better judgement).
BTW: I take car of my cars. I have had 3 Benzos 300E, E420, E500) and I drove all of them hard, and they all run great because I took good care of them.

im really not conserned how i spell cause i know i can, this is not a literature class;)
and im gonna quote my self AGAIN if u missed it
...a woman car inthusiast will take care of her car cause she is involved in it...but like any other regular woman, to them its just a transportation
This could mean you, but not the rest of the women...i have experiences with these kind of women, jsut like MB300E87, has experiences with women like you...so ALL im doing is expressing my experiences....knowing that NOT all women are same...but a larger majority do not care about their cars, cause they consider it a manly thing..so their BF, Husbands, Brothers...bla bla bla, should take care of them

Elvir,
I am happy you consider me a "a woman car inthusiast" but I assure you that I am not. A lot of people think I am, but I am not.
While I appreciate your experiences (what little you have) with women, some of them should be kept to yourself (IMHO).
I did see that later on after your original statement you stated "not all women are the same". Honestly the disease (hoof-n-mouth) had already started spreading after your first statement, and now you are in the treatment phase.
It is all good, because I see that the treatment is working.

women shouldn't be behind the wheel anyways. they need to stay home, watch the kids, cook dinner, bring me beer and stuff.
I'M KIDDING...I'M JUST JOKING
Although there are some women who are car enthusiests, you have to agree that a majority or women just treat the car as a form of transportation and that's it. I'm not saying all women, but most.
Whats important to men and whats important to women are 2 totally different things.
I hate walking into a shoe shop with a girl just as much as she hates talking into the sony store with me.
My mom will have nothing to do with cars when it comes to buying them. Dad wanted to get a car for mymom and she refused to go take a look. All she said as..just go buy whatever, i hate looking at cars.

I'll speak on behalf of Jane -
When she got her car back in June of last year, one of the first things she asked me to do is to teach her how to wash her car correctly. And while she is no hardcore car enthusiast, she does like to take care of her car.

On top of that, she has a plan of how to mod her car if she ever was to do it. She's been asked many a time when she plans to get some new wheels for her car, and she knowingly replies, "Can't get wheels for a car if you don't lower it first." ;)

Yup, but I don't pay attention to the rims so much because some cars have major brake dusts problem (especially German) and looks dirty in couple of days. Personally I only look at tire dressing... Clean wheels but no dressing, BOOOO. hahaha. Clean tire with dressing (no ghetto super shiny stuff) always turn me on!!! :D

I like buying cars that were previously owned by:
rich older men/women - because they tend to always ask the dealer to check the car over and pay for anything! (I have receipts for wiper blades, light bulbs,, screws  that came w/ the E420 that was owned by probably a rich old man) + older people id assume drive their cars nicer.
women - because no matter what they seem to be more caring of whatever they own. sure most of them take it to those detailing places but at least they do! They also seem to read at least the maintenance manual and go to the dealer when they have to!
car enthusiasts obviously!! no explanation needed. I'd be a lil wary to buy an E500 / C36, etc. from a complete car nut though especially if it has huge rims, intakes, etc etc etc. I prefer to buy a stock car.
Most women I know that own cars have really clean cars! They may not be very shiny outside but they sure smell good and are clean inside.

some months ago I announced to my family on the way out of the front door that I was going to buy some screen wash, because I had run out. My Mother shouted back "you're always buying screenwash, howcome you use so much of it? I've never run out!" My Father shouted (from another room) "That's because *I* check YOUR screenwash every weekend!"
Mothers rarely know anything about cars, especially when they have Husbands and Sons who are car nuts, they just don't need to :) .
Females tend to treat their cars differently to Males, a bloke's car is more likely to have a filthy interior and a clean exterior, girls will have opposite. Blokes are more likely to drive their cars hard, but will also take care to have it serviced on time and maybe do the odd job in between, whereas girls (who don't have a brother or a boyf or a father nearby) are more likely to take it slightly easier (at the expense of the clutch, gearbox and nearside wheel rims  ) forget to service the car and only take it in when there is something wrong with it or a warning light appears on the dash. Girls are also much more likely to give their car a name, guys never do that...
There is a simple reason for all of this: girls largely take no interest in cars, when they do it is because the car is pretty. My mother rented a car while on holiday, when I asked what it was the reply was "a blue one".
Here is a great example of how girls think, regarding cars. I was driving some girls to a company party and one of them pointed out a silver Audi TT. She said it was her dream car, but she couldn't afford it, she would need £22k to buy one. I said "but you can buy a used one for about £10k, even cheaper if you're willing to have a LHD model" and she replied: "no, it has to be *mine*".
