My First Posted Kill 2000'ish Bmw 740il

Well here is goes;

Im traveling n/b on I-57 heading towards Chicago to drop my Dad off at the airport. It was around 2 in the afternoon, traffic was light and it was a perfect sunny day around 70 ish degrees(rare to have such a nice day in the midwest!).

Im doing about 75-80 mph when I notice this black BMW tuck in behind me, I start to pick up the speed a bit to pass a truck in the slow lane and get up to about 90 mph and this guys sticks with me. So I move over expecting him to pass me, nope, tucks in again. So I figure hes using me to be the decoy should we come up on a State Trooper or other law enforcement. So I slow down to the speed limit of 65 mph and he does the same.

I figured I had enough, so I slow down even further, 55mph, this time he passes, as he does I NOW tuck in behind him. He picks the pace back up and at this time my Dad is warning me to be careful. I tell him to have no worries.

Finally the Black BMW pulls into the slow lane and lets me catch up. He has tinted windows, has the ganster lean and has his buddy riding with him as well. I smile and wave and tell my Dad, Let me race this guy.

I punch it at about 80mph and pull on him all the way to a registered(on my speedo anyway) 125mph with at least 2 1/2 car lengths!!!! My Dad says thats enough but I tell him to let me do it one more time so this guys knows I can beat him. Sure enough he pulls up even again at about 80 and we hit it again, only this time I get up to 100 and have a solid car length on him and back off for good. The guy waves and drives off!!

Not bad for a 11 year old 6cyl car with 221k miles on it,eh??!! :banana: :banana:

nice, but beating a V8 bimmer with some 60hp and 80ft/tq more than you shouldnt be that easy.however, I owned a 740i and know that some of its flaws are in the top end, such as a sudden stall at around 100mph(maybe only mine had that problem), you would have to downshift to get it moving past 100mph and then upshift to maintain the speed. but all changed once I got upsolute chip and made my own intake, damn that thing hauled azz. anyways, I'm glad you showed that bimmer who's rules the roads. :D

Thats what I thought too, but its not the first time its happened, maybe it has something to do with its weight difference. But to be honest, I have also taken a 540i auto. My mechanic said my car feels faster than any other e320 he has driven but whos to say, as I dont believe an exhaust and K&N with a hollowed out air box would make that big a difference.
I tried another 540i one day, however it was a manual and beat me pretty fairly! :)

yeah, automatics are slow as hell. I wish my late C280 was manual, I could have beaten so many other manual bimmers.

:werd: 740i is definetly faster than a '94 E320. Now the comment about the 540i was just <_< A E39 540i automatic or not, will leave you many car lenghts behind. 540 is my favorite non-M BMW ever made. that 4.4 V8 is killer...

the 740i??? well that depends......as i even seriously doubt it on freeway speed

and the 540i???? no way no how.....and at ANY speed it'll take the 94 E320 back to SKOOL!!!!

even if we are talking about the older 540i.....was still a high 6sec car

but i think the bimmer driver was really not trying

sometimes at a freeway race its all about if you are willing to go all out (aka if he is really willing to top out at 150mph)

I dont know,how to respond other than what I know..... but its understandable what you guys are saying, but the 740il sure seemed to be trying, I dunno....it was fun anyway.

PS Its not like Im new to fast cars or anything( I dont believe the Benz is quick however I will be taking it to the track for grins), I have had my share of "quick" cars, a flat 12 Mustang, a 13 sec 69 Mach 1, a 13 sec 90 Mustang trunk....so anyway.

BadBenz94 I don't think you're lying but the E38 is pretty quick on the hwy. I've hung with cars on the hwy that I didn't think at the time I would be able to due to the weight. If you said you roll raced and won against a 740 I'd believe you :lol:.

I have been contemplating how to respond to some of the feedback. Most of my posts are little comments here and there and try to help if possible. I have a wife, a son, a home, a career Im happy with(although still not making enough money! :) ) and pretty content with life. I posted this not to impress others on this board or to show how rightous( LOL my car is old!!) my car is, I just thought it was amusing and decided to share it. I dont need to prove anything just thought it was funny. If the guy wasnt trying or the other cars I believed to have beaten were broke, then so be it. I dont mind losing(hell it happens all the time!!) I like to play whenever possible just for fun. :D

I don't come here to slander anyone ;). I'm just a young guy who has had a lot of cars. I only speak from personal experience. If my opinions differ from other members than so be it. I come here as an enthusiast :).
