Is it possible to get some more juice out of my '88 300SEL? It has a stock m103 3L motor that the factory says has 177 HP. Is there something I can do to get maybe 200HP? I preffer to stick with my m103 motor since its easy to work on.

A 25 shot of NOS? But then that would take you to 202HP?

How about selling it and buying a car that you can mod like a W202?

Lame! Be a man about it, and shell out some $$$. Your options really are only as follows:

1.) Light dosage of NOS, nothing more than 15 hp per cylinder. Gives you some acceleration, but a pain if you like the twisties.

2.) Supercharger. Gives what the m103 really needs the most, low end torque. You can probably fab a setup and install it yourself for under $3k

3.) Pre-built turbo. Mosselman makes an application for the m103. The problem is the kit is $6k+installation. Not worth it at all.

4.) Custom turbo. Think td-05 from a 2.6 litre Mitsu starion and an intercooler. The setup would probably be good for 350hp (or so I am told.) www.benzboy.com (http://www.benzboy.com) can make you a turbo exhaust manifold for around $440. Don't quote me though, because that was a price from many months ago. Ebay is a good place for the turbo and intercooler. If you build it right, you should have minimal lag and decent performance. Not gonna be as smooth as a blower, but it should be fun. Doable for under $3k.

If you don't love your car and don't want to keep it forever, forget about it. These mods easily cost half the value of your car, and your ROI would be WAY negative. Think like Enron red.

If a trade up to a W202 is out of the budget..try a 190E 16 valver
