lol...that's true...
but i told sean (perv) that there was a delay/dead-spot and my car didn't shift down fast enough...whereas i think sean had the advantage of mashing the gas and downshifting with his manual...
but a race is a race...and remember, guys, it doesn't matter if you win by an inch, or a mile...:P
will need to go at it again tho... ;)

can't you just shift down from D and hold it there (on the gear selector), thus eliminating delay?

yes i guess i could've done that...should've kept in 3rd or 4th, then mashed it...but I've owned my SLK for a bit over a year and I've never "manually" downshifted it just because I don't want any problems with my transmission in the long-run because of shifting an automatic abruptly, or something...

perz, i'm sure your car could take his off the line as yours is a NA and a 5-spd... you just need to get that first gear launch perfected!!

Well you probably harm the car more with your "bog-n-go" than a quick precise launch. it just takes practice.

lol. its when you drop the clutch without giving enough gas to properly launch. the RPM's drop a bit, the car may make some noise, then you floor it. that noise is the bog, and your retalliation as a driver is the go.

I wouldn't worry about "manually" shifting your car. It's made for it. I'd worry, however, about the roof mechanism.

is your slk230 4spd auto or what? next time we meet up let me run u in my c230k.. I have the 5spd auto box.
I would think the slk is faster then the C class.. because of weight.. but I know that the C230 vs 2.3-16 the c230 would loose 0-60 just slightly..but an aged 16valve ..might make it an even race..

lol SLKs don't come in 4 speed auto
it's a 5-speed auto...
and yes...SLK230K is faster to 0-60 mph than a C230K...
SLK230K (0-60 mph is 7.1 s. according to MBUSA.com and magazines have tested it at 0-60 mph in 6.9 s.)
either way it's not a fast car...haha... ;) :D

That's actually not a bad acceleration figure! Not that I'd buy one......... I'm a torque addict

^^
me too...well after driving my dad's S500 which has 315 hp and 347 lb-ft of torque... :P
i dont mind the SLK so much...it's great for city driving and has good initial pick up...
but its not as fun pressing it after 80 mph as it is w/ a nice meaty v8...
